Find correct name
The airport is not listed as João Paulo II anywhere.
The airport's own website calls itself simply Ponta Delgada, and has no mention of João Paulo.
Template:Regions of Portugal: statistical (NUTS3) subregions and intercommunal entities are confused; they are not the same in all regions, and should be sublisted separately in each region: intermunicipal entities are sometimes larger and split by subregions (e.g. the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon has two subregions), some intercommunal entities are containing only parts of subregions. All subregions should be listed explicitly and not assume they are only intermunicipal entities (which accessorily are not statistic subdivisions but real administrative entities, so they should be listed below, probably using a smaller font: we can safely eliminate the subgrouping by type of intermunicipal entity from this box).

While I do believe that the subject is notable (per the ongoing AfD; I would advise added some of the en-refs in the AfD to this article), the article needs a tidy up to meet WP writing style standards. In particular, I have flagged a section that includes long lists of names, which are not helpful to readability and are largely unreferenced. The article needs to stick more closely to the subject (e.g. what he did, what he said) as per WP:BLP, and avoid straying into the wider field in which he works in. It would help readers to reduce the size of the article which includes unnecessary/non-notable detail (i.e. if you can't find a WP:RS to specifically reference a sentence, it is probably not worth keeping).
