Cleanup
editThe accompanying Dab page has accumulated many entries for topics whose titles could not be "house", even if the title were not already in use. This violates MoSDab and interferes with the purpose of the Dab page, by cluttering it with material irrelevant to that purpose.
It is more important to move that material out than to address the question of whether it has any potential for enhancing WP elsewhere, so those who think it might can find the material here, create articles, and perhaps address the question on AfD.
In particular, there are many senses of "house" that are simply synonyms for "subdivision" (house within the zodiac, houses (=firms) within any particular industry (fashion houses and "the house" at each casino are specific instances), houses (=families) within the international nobility, houses within a legislature, and probably others. The instances i've moved here seem to be particular dictdefs within this wide-ranging kind of subdivisions. It is far fetched (even when, e.g., House system may be worthy of an article) to suppose that the concept of "house" inherent in that system is an encyclopedic topic: "house" functions just as a minor term of art, and all the encyclopedic content on the system is about how the principles of the system, not about what constitutes a subdivision within the system.

House Music
editIt seems silly that House Music isn't linked to from this disambiguation. I was going to add it in when I saw above that it had been removed. The word "House", on its own, is often used synonymously with "House Music", (that's how I got here), and it just feels like it should be a link, unlike most of the removed content. I'm going to go ahead and put it back, just in case no-one ever reads this. 86.9.148.198 (talk) 23:36, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with this post. Just like Trance music is often referred to just Trance, House music is usually just referred to House. Fact is, most music styles is often just referred to the style. Erzsébet Báthory(talk|contr.) 09:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- I concur. While repairing erroneous links to House, I've run across extensive use of House in various music articles when referring to House music. -- Thinking of England (talk) 23:18, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Clearly
editClearly when someone enters "House" in the search field they expect to get the article on the TV Show, not the articles about "house" as in the building. It is safe to assume that people do not want to know what a "house" is when searching for "House". Everyone knows what that is. 88.85.52.191 (talk) 17:56, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. But I suppose Wikipedians would argue that it's an encyclopedia and that the most common definition should go first. Can I suggest a compromise? Maybe have "House (TV Show)" at the top of this disambiguation page as before? I think it's fair, as I would think that most people clicking through to here are looking for the page on the TV show. Maybe put this under a "most frequent" heading or something. Suggestions? 60.242.31.57 (talk) 01:31, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
- I agree also. I went to search for House the TV series and the result was House the building. It is clear to me that House (disambiguation) should be the result for a House search, with House TV series and House building at the top. In fact, most of the above mentioned deletions from House (disambiguation) should have been retained in the disambiguation article, even if lower down the page, as this would help users to find the article they seek. This might be true today, but it won't be in 100 or 1000 years, when television is as obscure as Shakespeare. Would anyone seriously suggest that "Jesus Christ" should lead to an article on the movie by that title, or that "Adams" should lead to an article on the television show "The Adams Family" and not the Presidents.
Houses that are buildings, but not a residence (House of Worship, Houses of Parliament, etc.)
editShould houses that are buildings, but not a residence (house of worship, Houses of Parliament, etc.) be in the main "house" article, or should they be discussed on the disambiguation page?

Recent format changes
editWoodensuperman, did you mean to fully revert Froid's recent reorg/cleanup? That seems like a lot of work to just undo without an explanation apart from the rather insulting "Last good version". Maybe you two can talk it out here. -- Fyrael (talk) 21:03, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I did. I thought the changes were counter-intuitive. --woodensuperman 08:21, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
