Ford's Fans?!
editWTF?! "It should be noted that although highly respected by critics both then and now, the film isn't highly regarded by Ford's fans, this may have something to do with the fact that How Green Was My Valley competed with Citizen Kane that year..."
Why would competing against Kane lower HGWMV in the eyes of Ford Fans? The fact that it kept Kane from winning? If anything, this would indicate to the casual reader/movie goer that HGWMV must be a pretty good film. Please remove, if some sense and substantiation can't be made of the statement! - I agree. Edited article to bring it up to good start shape. Non sourced info make Wiki look weak! Luigibob 08:28, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Ending
editI realize from the narrative/dialogue that Huw's father is supposed to have died in the mining accident. But the film ends with him walking off with his father - who is using a cane. I do not recall the father using a cane during the film - is this supposed to be some "idealized in Heaven reunion", or did they try to soften it for the audience? Or did the father use a cane during the film and I missed it? (Yes, I am asking all these questions so I do not change the page until I get confirmation that my suspicions are correct) FlaviaR (talk) 05:15, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
A film about growing u?p
editAnyone who has seen How Green was my valley would have certainly felt this; it is a film about growing up and brings to mind all the bitter-sweet memories about your first days at school, the savage street fights and the reproach at home. The melancholic strain in the film is very important and one gets a sense of the slow passage of time. The tears keep welling up and at end one cannot help wondering how true this is,the death of the pastoral and the choking of the romantic in the cold spirit of materialismAkepati mohan (talk) 10:23, 2 July 2009 (UTC)akepati mohan
Welsh choir
editWhat a pity the film's credits merely list the Welsh singers as "Themselves". The magnificent choral music is a dominant highlight of the movie and deserves commensurate recognition. Does anyone know which choir was selected for the work? Bjenks (talk) 15:51, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
Adaptations: Pleader
editThis page claims the video portrays the deaths as caused by a meteor strike. The page on the novel itself also makes mention of this music video, but claims it attributes the deaths to a rocket strike (German V2) during WWII. So does the music video go with the meteor or the rocket? Will the real culprit please stand up? lol. 76.67.125.189 (talk) 03:40, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
- The music video has no relation to the film, so I've removed it from the adaptations section. The V-2 rocket was not launched until some years after the 1941 film. Thanks for drawing attention to this nonsense! Bjenks (talk) 04:07, 11 May 2018 (UTC)
Welsh names
editI sympathise with the IP editor who dislikes the common spelling abuse of names like (male) Bronwyn and (female) Bronwen; and, if (s)he wanted to be consistent, 'Ivor' would become 'Ifor'. Yet the American film-makers chose un-Welsh spellings, no doubt to accord with common naming practice in their country. For WP purposes, that means we use 'Bronwyn' in the movie (as documented in the screened cast list) and 'Bronwen' for the book. I just view it in company with the myriad other arbitrary variations between British and American spelling. Bjenks (talk) 03:00, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
