The current article second paragraph 6th sentence states "The storm has caused at least $50 billion (2021 USD) in damages". This is unknown at this time as total damage has not been assessed. This number comes from a single AP report that cites an anonymous private firm's estimate of the damages. That sentence should be reworded to indicate that number is merely a possible estimate and not a known fact.

"A current estimate shows the storm may have caused at least $50 billion (2021 USD) in damages, of which $15 billion was in insured losses in Louisiana, potentially making Ida the sixth-costliest tropical cyclone on record."

Not done Thank you for your query. I understand your concern, but AP News is a reliable source (WP:RSP) and the place they got the estimate from seems to be as well. We've decided to use that source for now until an official estimate comes out. codingcyclone please ping/my wreckage 17:37, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
There are other sources from reputable sources suggesting that the damage exceeds $50 billion. See https://www.cbsnews.com/news/hurricane-ida-damage-80-billion-accuweather-estimates/ and https://www.inquirer.com/business/ida-storm-damage-costs-philadelphia-pennsylvania-new-jersey-20210903.html. I believe it would be appropriate to adjust the number upward as the original number was based off one reliable source and there are multiple reliable sources supporting an upward adjustment. Hurricane Ida effects drafts

Hello, everyone. This is just a heads-up that we have two drafts currently under construction for Hurricane Ida's impacts in the United States. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help work on these drafts. These drafts will be published when they are ready. No further drafts are planned at this time. The main priority should be beefing up the main article, and then adding the finer details to these drafts. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 20:42, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

I notice that the Louisiana one has basically nothing in it. Also, it also affected areas between the two areas so possibly merging the two to Effects of Hurricane Ida? PlanetsForLife 02:49, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
No, because once those two drafts are done, they will be kind of long. And if the completed drafts are combined, then they will be too long (definitely over the readable prose size limit). This is why we decided to make two impacts articles for the US. At this time, we do not anticipate needing more subarticles, so we are sticking with two drafts. Factoids going to require thorough cleanup at some point

As users were indiscriminately adding FACTOIDS based on news articles, we had people climbing onto rooftops a la Katrina in the Aftermath section. Those unfamiliar with Louisiana or New Orleans just assumed that the vague news reports applied to areas not mentioned in the source article. I moved some to their appropriate sections and edited others to clarify what the SOURCES were actually reporting. In a fluid situation, news reports are not the best source for historical fact, so I expect that many of the factoids will either be edited or deleted from the article in due course. The "deaths reports" are still scattered about, so perhaps they should all be collected into the Aftermath section eventually. Dfoofnik (talk) 09:48, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Description of deaths in lead

The description of deaths in the lead is confusing. It goes from saying the total number to saying the numbers from the two involved countries (U.S. and Venezuela) followed by the number of deaths in each U.S. state then to the number of indirect deaths while including the Venezuela death toll again before finally describing some of the indirect U.S. deaths. Can someone please clean this up?ChessEric (talk · contribs) 03:54, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

GIF adding

I would like to add a GIF with a tornado warning for Philadelphia, and the remnants of Ida hitting Massachusetts, and the final flash flood warning for Hartford-Worcester area. The tornado warning for Philadelphia was there origianally there, and I would like to add a similar one. Do I have permission to add a GIF? Severestorm28 (talk) 20:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

@Severestorm28: You can always be bold and add the image; permission is not an issue. I don't think adding the gif is advisable, however, since we already have a radar animation with tornado and flash flood warnings (including Philadelphia), and adding another would make the impact section rather crowded. WP:OBVIOUS

May I suggest an edit to the first sentence to include some variant of the phrase, "...that made landfall on the Gulf Coast on <whatever date>"? 75.150.188.244 (talk) 17:28, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Effects of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana

Hurricane Ida caused devastating impacts in Louisiana and it would make sense if we made an article about its impacts in the state. 2A00:23C4:CAB:D301:CDF7:8B98:E536:AD18 (talk) 15:09, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

It was agreed to not make an Ida sub article for Louisiana, because the article was not long enough to warrant a split. 98.116.45.220 (talk) 13:43, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Please add, under the Mid-Atlantic section, that a Nationals-Phillies game was postponed: https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/phillies-nationals-rained-out-hurricane-ida/ 67.85.34.149 (talk) 23:27, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Not done: Wikipedia is not a newspaper. M.Bitton (talk) 00:25, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
I disagree with the NOTNEWS rationale, because we include similar events in several other Wikipedia articles about sports closures. While baseball postponements are the most common of any sport, they are still rare. Many road closures should also be removed if we interpret NOTNEWS that strictly. 98.116.45.220 (talk) 13:43, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
I agree with the IP here - since the article goes into a quite a large amount of detail on the effects of the hurricane, including relatively trivial incidents such as One victim's truck was swept 1.8 miles down stream in Milford, NJ., or The St. Stephen Catholic School in New Orleans lost its roof., or One person also died after falling from a roof while making damage repairs., this seems appropriate. In addition, there is a line under the Louisiana section already reading Several sporting events were also moved, delayed, or cancelled due to the storm., suggesting that the cancellation of a sporting event (although maybe not the specific teams) is likely worthy of inclusion here. Tollens (talk) 08:18, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
@Tollens: the cancellation of several sporting events is already mentioned, but if you have reason to believe that a specific event (which I assume is more important than the others) is worth mentioning, then you're welcome to add it. M.Bitton (talk) 16:02, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
I too agree with IP. The Louisiana section in "Preparations" names a preseason NFL game that was canceled and the Louisiana section of "Aftermath" names several college-level sporting events and an NFL regular-season game that were moved. Surely an actual regular-season MLB game is at least as "important" the college-level and preseason NFL events, no? I would go ahead and add it myself, but I'm having a hard time thinking of how to inject a sentence about the game in the existing paragraph. --Pinchme123 (talk) 00:11, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
@Pinchme123 and M.Bitton: it might just be able to be tacked on to the end perhaps? The other sections don't seem to have any sort of consistent flow, most of them reading more like a list than a sequence of related events. If it seems that would be fine to both of you, "On September 1, a planned MLB baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals was postponed due to the rain caused by the remnants of the storm.[1]" seems a reasonable way to phrase it based on the other instances in the article. Tollens (talk) 00:45, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
Works for me. I've been WP:BOLD and added this, with more info for a cite template.
