Colombo hosting and naming criticism issue??disagrement- discussion required

edit

i think there is disagreement on what is relevant to this article. User:Shshshsh and I seem to disagree so requesting discussion to settle the issue. Hope this will lead to a stable article instead of back and forth edits. Lotadutt (talk) 18:58, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think the naming of the academy should be mentioned so as not to mislead people. And also the reasons behind the stepping down of amitab bachchan should also be mentioned (which is because of the controversy involved in hosting the award ceremony in Colombo,Srilanka) Lotadutt (talk) 06:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Colombo part is not at all relevant here. That'll be relevant only on a page for that same year's ceremony. This page is about the International Indian Film Academy Awards, not some trivial things related to it.
As for the criticism part, there's nothing misleading on this page as the article clearly introduces the awards as an organisation which awards HINDI films and not Indian films as a whole. The criticism part you've added is one-sided, not well written, one source there is unreliable, and only one film personality is mentioned there. It is a clear violation of WP:UNDUE. Mammootty is not an authority here. More sources are needed and this is a very delicate issue because it's clearly a negative addition which has to be checked before. How come only one source stands there?
I'm not a fan of IIFA and have no bias in this case, but I challenge you to come with more sources and more data. Then I will happily help you to create a new section which will have decent information for the readers and not biased statements based on one party's POV. I dont see how the colombo part is irrelevant (i dint understand "That'll be relevant only on a page for that same year's ceremony"). The venue made such a big issue, reports say Amitabh stepped down because of the protest against the venue. The south indian(the tamil industry unions are named south indian) chamber of commerce, employers union, producers and theater union have told to boycott IIFA just because of the venue. Being the second largest producer of films in india i think the industry's voice has to be given some credit. There are also reports that mani ratnam's ravana film did not screen because of this issue. Please check news bulletins for news on IIFA, none of them go without mentioning the srilankan venue issue.

As for the naming part, I agree it was not well written. If an article by a major news daily is considered a voice of a minority then i think as us say it should go. But if not may be you should help out in writing in a more neutral manner. The article only draws support for its criticisim. Mammooty was the only one(as far as I know) to speak from within the industry but many external bodies have expressed their discontent. I'll try to find the sources for it. And again the article does not express the view of the actor but draws support for emphasise its own view. Lotadutt (talk) 22:15, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'll look for more sources tomorrow. ShahidTalk2me 20:50, 9 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Methodology

No information about how the awards are decided. Who is the jury? Is it a voting-based system? What are the eligibility criteria? Veryhuman (talk) 04:59, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

This article is missing Best Song Recording. Could someone please add it, and also possibly create an article on that as well? Softlavender (talk) 08:53, 20 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
