While the song I Shall Not Be Moved' may have been adopted as an old negro spiritual, it was written by John T Benson (1861-1930) of the publishing company that bears his name.

"David Spener has written a book documenting the history of this song title" - wouldn't it be nice if some of that history could appear here? By the way, there have been plenty of publishers that claimed authorship of songs that actually originated in the folk repertoire, and even more that copyrighted songs they had no business copyrighting. Without at least some elaboration on the time period and the circumstances, we have no way of knowing whether Benson publishing had a legitimate claim to the song or not. There is no evidence that shows it was a slave hymn. 2600:100D:B041:4814:E215:E037:D785:905A (talk) 01:03, 12 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
