This fish is popularly known as Pulasa in Andhra Pradesh and is avilable during the rain season when rivier Godavari is in in its full steam. Article title should be "Hilsa"

edit

Yes, Ilish is the Latin transliteration of Bangla ইলিশ, but this fish is known as Hilsa in English. Most of the source articles referenced (Fishbase, IUCN, others) use Hilsa as the preferred name of this fish. Banglapedia uses Hilsa (https://en.banglapedia.org/index.php/Hilsa) as does WorldFish (https://worldfishcenter.org/topics/hilsa).

As this question appears not to have been discussed on the present Talk page, and being unfamiliar with Wikipedia protocols, I would simply ask that this matter be reviewed.

"World famous"

edit

I would remove "The world famous" from the second paragraph. Partially because it's a loaded term, and secondly because it is NOT in fact world famous, but rather of significant importance to a particular region of the world. Most people outside Bengal culture would not have heard of this fish. 128.40.96.118 (talk) 10:59, 26 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
