Carpintero Imperial? (youtube.com) I found this video on YouTube Shorts today that potentially shows an imperial woodpecker. I took a screenshot of the video and put it into the Merlin Bird ID app, and the results it gave me looked nothing like the bird in this video. Can this be included in the article as proof that it is still extant? Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 20:32, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

That is WP:original research, which is not allowed. Either way, as you can see in the Campephilus article, there are plenty of very similar relatives alive today. FunkMonk (talk) 20:44, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
This video was filmed in Mexico, which only leaves two possible options, the pale-billed and imperial. The bird's face looks too black to be the pale-billed, but I understand why this video cannot be included due to it not coming from a reliable/Wiki-trusted source. I did contact Corneil Lab of Ornithology about this though. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 22:53, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
If they or others reliably publish the claim, we can include it. FunkMonk (talk) 23:04, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
