Can we get a clear statement of how this relates to list of ecology topics (science) and list of environment topics (health and related policy) and list of sustainable agriculture topics (how to grow food on land without killing it)? The word conservation is a good conservative one (;-)) so this list should remain, but we need everything on all these lists, and on list of Green party issues, list of ethics topics, list of economics topics, and urban economics, sorted through to get a relatively well-factored set of shorter lists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.177.103.79 (talk) 20:00, 9 September 2003 (UTC)Reply

NPOV where is any discussion of property rights and how lands adjacent to "conserved" areas are being restricted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.209.140.21 (talk) 03:45, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Conservationist versus Environmentalist

edit

I consider conservation to be a subset of environmentalism. Conservation is about saving species whereas environmentalism is about saving the planet. --Alan Liefting 01:08, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I don't think that is a generally recognized distinction, although I think a case could be made for a somewhat less narrow distinction. Conservation is about preservation (not only of species, but of natural resources as well). Environmentalism has more of an ethical, and in some circles almost spiritual, quality to it. It's about changing how humans interact with the environment to (hopefully) result in a stable long-term balance. Thus it is not uncommon for some on the political right to dismiss environmentalism as liberal activism, while conservation does not have quite the same association. olderwiser 01:22, Oct 10, 2004 (UTC)
Conservation is conserving unowned park/wilderness land in the public's interest not the overbearing- overarching- nowarrent or compensation required- steal-your-antique-car-collection; of the enviromental extremists-worship-guya-population-reduction as per Prince Phillip and Jaques Cousteau. I agree with the change only because I was thinking for about five minutes why there is a Wikipedia article about conversation topics! Psychomelodic User:Psychomelodic/me 23:52, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Index of statistics articlesList of statistics articles — Most lists are called "List of -". There are probably other pages that start with "Index of -". This is to standardize articles and naming. 174.3.98.236 (talk) 11:41, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

new entry candidate: Anti-whaling

edit

Hi, i just wanted to run this by everyone here, or anyone who watches this: I'd like to add a new page on Anti-whaling activism to this list. Unless there is a better place. I'm currently looking into the Wikiproject links. Thanks. PrBeacon (talk) 09:41, 28 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Conservation of whales is certainly a conservation topic. I have therefore added your article to the list. You have, however, vandals dogging your tracks. I had to rv this article before I could add yours to it. You might want to watch this article for a while to make sure it does not happen again. WP is not a forum for world affairs nor is it a battleground where persons of different views fight for power of expression. It is only an encyclopedia.Dave (talk) 01:34, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

edit

I'm surprised to see no one noticed that in February unregistered users 59.94.147.61 and 173.32.89.182 vandalized this article by blanking out the A's and replacing it with a long, irrelevant, ungrammatical, nonsensical, apparent machine translation of some junk. This is a list not an essay, but we can hardly assume sincerity on the part of the vandals. Whether you are rude, illiterate, highly misintentioned sinceres or as I think vandals, it would be a wonderful thing for all if you stayed off WP and confined your wall-scribbling to your back yard fences, at least until you come to your senses. Meanwhile I have reverted to the last good version, complete in 2009. If I missed any legitimate changes I do apologize. I recommend you legits be watching this article - someone has an axe to grind by messing it up.Dave (talk) 01:27, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

It is on my watchlist but it slipped past me for one reason or another. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 02:47, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
