This is a prominent organisation of Indian public life and the Indian diaspora, so that having to "establish notability" makes no sense. Anyone who, for instance, has a look at the list of recipients of IIFS awards (accepted with obvious pleasure and pride) mentioned in the article will understand this at once, provided — and that is the catch — he has an inkling of matters Indian. Having looked at user Coolug's contributions, however, I conclude that his or her interests seem not to lie in this field; they seem to run mostly towards matters pertaining to the "West" and particularly North America, much of this current trivia. This is one of the drawbacks of a platform like Wikipedia: prior knowledge of one's own need not necessarily be acquired to pass judgements on anything that catches one's fancy. Awardees

edit

The list of awardees should be limited to people notable enough to already have Wikipedia articles. Since these awards appear to be handed out rather liberally, a listing of all awardees would be meaningless, and would only serve to bolster the egos of those non-notable people whose name appear on this list. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:34, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Indeed. Failure to limit in this manner might fall foul of WP:IINFO. --Nouniquenames 16:42, 25 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Non-notable again

edit

Once again, the IP editor has insisted on adding the name of Vijay Sarabu to this page, contradicting the consensus that has been reached here and in numerous places that lists of "notable people" (residents of towns, recipients of awards, etc) should only include those names that are verifiably notable (i.e. either having or at least meriting their own Wikipedia article). There is no indication that Sarabu meets this criterion. I have exceeded the 3RR rule in trying to battle this obvious vandalism, and have requested page protection to keep the IP editor from repeating this process. Addition of Pranab Bhattacharya

edit

Professor Dr Pranab kumar Bhattacharya of calcutta school of Tropical medicine Kolkata had been awarded Rashtriya Gaurav award of IIFS on 13th August 2016 at India international center multipuropse hall Max Muller Marg, New Delhi. and also selected by Jogindar singh IPS Chairman of IIFS and Former CBI Director Director for the India glory award on 4th oct 2016 at cost of RS 30,000 INR at Bangkok Thialand — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bapi Patho (talkcontribs) 10:33, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Bapi Patho: No one is disputing the fact that Dr Bhattacharya has received this award. Many thousands of people have received this award. In order to avoid turning this page in a namechecking list of every person who ever received the award, it has been discussed and agreed in the past that this list, like all lists at Wikipedia, should conform to Wikipedia's guidelines for list inclusion, namely that a person should already be the subject of a standalone Wikipedia article before being included in this list, and that there is a valid, reliable source to verify the person's award. In this case, Bhattcharya is not sufficiently notable to merit his own article, and there are not reliable sources to verify his award, so his name should not be included in this list. @Bapi Patho: If you are convinced of Prof. Bhattacharya's notability, I suggest that you create a Wikipedia article about him, and see if the community lets it stand. However, the sources you've pointed to are not convincing: they show that Prof. Bhattacharya has a blog, and posts a lot of messages on the Nobel.org message board (a message board that anyone can post on), but they don't show that anyone has written independently about Prof. Bhattacharya. Until Wikipedia already has an article about Prof. B., his name should not be added to the list of IIFS honorees. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:25, 3 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Bapi Patho: I'll reply here the same as I did at my talk page: my definition of notability is irrelevant. Wikipedia has its own definition of who merits inclusion. You can find it here: WP:BIO. And posting messages on a message board (whether or not that message board is open to the general public) does not confer notability. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:32, 4 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
Long screed about notability
AS Per Wikipedia the notable persons are as

Additional criteria[edit] People are likely to be notable if they meet any of the following standards. conversely, meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be included. Failure to meet these criteria is not conclusive proof that a subject should not be included; con

A person who fails to meet these additional criteria may still be notable under Wikipedia:Notability. Editors may find these criteria helpful when deciding whether to tag an article as requiring additional citations (using for example), or to instead initiate a deletion discussion.

DOES PROF PRANAB KUMAR BHATTACHARYA MD FIT THE CRITERIA OF NOTABILITY ?

What is your credential sir ?

@Bapi Patho: We do not need a complete reproduction of WP:BIO. Any editor can go read that page in its place, without littering this talk page with its poorly formatted contents. Again, I will say that the consensus has been that unless a person is already the subject of a Wikipedia article, their name should not be added to the list of IIFS honorees. If you care to write the article about Bhattacharya, please do so. Otherwise, please do not continue to badger the community with this matter. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:30, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
