History of this article

edit

In November 2023 the name Indira Joshi was a red link, and appeared in WP:Women in Red's list of most-linked red links. There was a problem: these links were for two different women, a younger Nepalese singer and an older UK actor.

An article about the singer had recently been speedy-deleted G-11 as "promotional". I asked the deleting admin for a sight of that article as it might help me to build a new article on the singer, who has Wikidata entry and articles in eight Asian-language Wikipedias. He kindly restored the page history, behind the dab page which I had already created for the two women at the title. That page history showed an interesting story:

  • 30 June 2005: Article on the actor, 370 bytes, at title Indira Joshi, created by an IP editor
  • 31 July 2013: This article, by now 1704 bytes, was over-written by Ashishlohorung to create an article about the singer, 924 bytes after a few edits
  • Within an hour it was nominated for speedy deletion A7 by Forward Unto Dawn
  • And the speedy was declined by Phil Bridger as "contest speedy deletion - clearly indicates importance/significance"
  • 19 March 2017‎ it was moved from Indira Joshi (Nepal) to Indira Joshi (but I don't see when it first acquired that disambiguation)
  • 14 February 2018 it was nominated at AfD by SeytX, but the AfD was closed 2 days later as "Nomination withdrawn", the day the nominator was blocked as a sockpuppet
  • By January 2023 the article was 8,197 bytes, having been edited by a large number of different editors over the years.
  • In February 2023 it was nominated for speedy deletion G-11, "Unambiguous advertising or promotion", and deleted.

I've now created stubs for both Indira Joshi (actor) and Indira Joshi (singer), from reliable sources; made a disambiguation page at Indira Joshi for them; and fixed all the incoming links to disambiguate them, along with re-linking the actor from a lot of pages where she should have been linked but was not.

So there's the saga to date. There seem to be sources in the Wikipedias I can't read which might be useful to expand this article. Please contribute what you can, remembering to source your contributions properly: everything in Wikipedia needs sources, but articles on living people even more so.
