Talk:Indo-Western clothing

As far as I know, Indo-Western clothing is not a commonly used term. Using the prefix "Indo" could be felt as discriminatory by other South Asians. I believe that the commonest term is now South Asian, as being more inclusive.

The mixing of modern Western and traditional Indian/South Asian styles is deserving of notice, but this article may not be the best way to notice it. It was created by the Reetriwaj linkspammer, who is trying to drum up business for his not-yet-opened shop.

I hope that there are other folks out there who have some knowledge of South Asian fashion and would be prepared to work on this article -- especially retitling it. My knowledge is purely theoretical. I tried ordering salwar suits from the web and eBay and after being disappointed multiple times, I ended up sewing my own. I have clicked through dozens of online shops and have a fair knowledge of what's offered. But that is not at all the same thing as living in India or Pakistan and seeing people on the street. Anon editor's complaint

Don't add slander to Wikipedia. I created the original article without any links attached!

Deletion of material on talk pages

The anon editor whom I have dubbed "the Reetriwaj linkspammer" very much objects to being characterized as such and has been editing this talk page to remove any references to his linkspamming spree.

While articles are fair game, it is not Wikipedia custom to edit other people's contributions to talk pages. If anon editor objects to being called "the linkspammer", he can take a username and enter a dialogue with other editors. That means leaving my contribution intact, and adding a comment explaining why my characterization is inaccurate or inapt.

He asserts that he created this article without linking to his page, and after checking the article history, I find that he's right. However, that doesn't change the fact that he was aggressively linking his page to various articles, restoring links after they had been removed. Whether or not it's fair to bring that up in the context of THIS page is a good question.

Perhaps the best way to resolve this would be for the anon editor to take a username and start making useful edits. I'd be happy to forget anything that happened earlier in that case. Frex, we could use some articles on sherwani and churidar. Also, perhaps, on bandhini, mangalsutra, zardozi, resham, and on the various styles of silk and cotton saris. Kanchipuram silks, Odam cottons, and such. I don't think there's any article on kundun work jewelry, either. Zora 05:53, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Salwar (shalwar) kameez

This article uses the word salwar to describe a shirt-type garment. However, salwar (also called shalwar) is the trouser part of a salwar kameez suit, and the shirt is the kameez. The writer of the article seems to have them mixed up.
