Race car driver
editI have removed the information about Atley as a race car driver. There is a Jack Atley who is a race car driver, but it is not evident that these are the same person. The linkage between the two was made based on this article in which the photographer Atley professed a love of Formula 1 racing and having had the opportunity to once take a drive around a race course. This is significantly different than being a successful race driver. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:07, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
- Here's a photograph of Jack Atley, the race car driver. Looks to be the same person as Jack Atley, the photographer. -Stelio (talk) 02:49, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
- I think it is likely the same guy and he did some racing as per here [1] and it’s a Jack Atley that lives in Melbourne but without a verified source that it is, we can’t add it. I also found this from his own YouTube channels that shows Jack Atley Racing and in about section, links to both his old webpage and his old photography page [2] or this one [3] NZ Footballs Conscience(talk) 03:31, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
So who is this guy?
editThere is debate above whether Jack Atley was a racecar driver, and from the lack of conclusion it looks like that bit of information might still be accurate. However, I'm here due to VRTS ticket # 2017091110017235 and the lead, in which concern about his "present profession" has been expressed.
The concern is that Atley is no longer a photographer, and thus we should not say "...Atley is a photographer". Personally I feel that if he has done nothing substantial since retirement, the statement should stand, but since I'm just one person I figured I'd bring it here for discussion. - The person who the article is about is for some reason trying to get that wording changed as they seem to think it is detrimental to them to have it on Wikipedia. As far as I can tell Atley hasn't done anything else since leaving photography and the article as written is about why they are notable, if they have moved on and we have reliable source then I'm happy for it to change but as it stands, I believe the wording is still correct. - I agree, and I have made that opinion clear, but I also said I would start a discussion. They may not like it, but if consensus appears then it's not just one person they disagree with. Primefac (talk) 11:25, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
Liable information?
editDiff says information on this page is totally wrong, outdated, and liable. I have no opinion other than the article looks decently sourced so the problem isn't with Wikipedia but the sources Wikipedia is using. We merely report what others have already said. We do have editorial discretion if the sources look unreliable or there is some reason to think they are wrong, but there has to be evidence of that. I am sympathetic to removing Wikipedia bios if the person doesn't want it and they are only marginally notable but not sure how to go about it. -- GreenC 13:55, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- Curiously http://www.jackatley.com/ (copyright 2019) says he is an award winning photographer etc.. so the complaint about Wikipedia saying the same thing makes no sense. There must be something in the article he takes exception to. Or we are dealing with a troll. Strange. -- GreenC 14:00, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- See the section above. There is an OTRS ticket from the subject complaining about this issue, but as mentioned there's nothing saying he's done anything since photography to change the lead. Primefac (talk) 15:32, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Primefac: When the above section was made, www.jackatley.com had been taken offline and was not working. Everything was consistent that Jack didn't want to be known as a photographer. It has since returned online, in October 2018. Ok maybe he changed his mind. But we are still getting requests to remove his status as a photographer, despite his own website being available saying he is a photographer. Do you see how strange it is? -- GreenC 16:50, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
- True, that is a little odd. Primefac (talk) 16:54, 23 June 2019 (UTC)
