Hi, Looks like an interesting article. I'll be working on the review and post it within the next day or so.--CaroleHenson (talk) 02:18, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Overview

edit

The article is very well-written and interesting. There are inline citations to reliable sources. Since the sources are Dutch, I will assume that the content was properly paraphrased. The layout, sections, etc. follow Manual of Style guidelines. The article is written with a neutral point of view and covers the subject well, without going into unnecessary detail. It is stable. There are a couple of Meesseen's photographs in the article, which are in the public domain and are properly tagged in commons. I tried to find an image of Meessen and some additional further reading items in English, with no luck.

Content

edit
  • In the intro, "Meessen's first experience in the Indies were in that field." - do you mean "experiences" or "was"?
  • In "...where the Meessens established a photographic studio", should it be photography studio?
  • Regarding: "Meessen worked alone, never taking a partner while in the colony, and documented the land and people in the colony" is the first "in the colony" needed - or is there a way to rephrase one of them?

That's all that I could find, you did a great job!--CaroleHenson (talk) 03:09, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Questions

edit

I have a couple of questions that may hopefully help to further improve the article:

  • The lead says that Meessen "was a Dutch photographer who took over 250 portraits and landscapes of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) between 1864 and 1870" seems like a rather limited definition. Where does this number of 250 come from, the album he made for the king? And did he only photograph in the East and in those six or seven years?
  • The article says he died in Opsterland, but this is an administrative entity and not a settlement. The obituary mentions Beetsterzwaag, is this the place where he died?
  • If he worked as an architect for several years, are there any other buildings he designed, besides the school that was not even completed by him or during his lifetime?

Thanks. – Editør (talk) 09:34, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Main page appearance

This is to let people know that this article has been scheduled as today's featured article for December 5, 2019, and specifically paging the FA nominator(s), Crisco 1492. It would be good if someone checked that the article needs no amendments. The main page blurb text can be viewed and edited at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 5, 2019.--Wehwalt (talk) 15:09, 21 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Photo of subject

edit

There is currently no photo of the subject in this article. Given that he was a photographer, albeit an early one, I would have expected there to be something. Can anything be found? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:59, 5 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
