"AK-47" Used to kill Zapata

edit

I have revised an incorrect assertion that the weapon smuggled by Otilio Osorio and used to kill Zapata was an "AK-47".

"AK-47" is a specific model, referring to the original design credited to Mikhail Kalashnikov and issued to the Soviet military shortly after the Second World War. The weapon in question looks very similar, but is a separate design and was manufactured in Romania for the US civilian market. In addition, an AK-47 is select-fire, while this weapon was semi-automatic; an important distinction. The correct model designation is "WASR-10", as noted in the CBS News article I have cited.

"AK-47" is common vernacular for any rifle derived from the original AK-47, but it is not an accurate descriptor.

Great! Thank you for providing your knowledge on this very important distinction. Feel free to edit this article. ComputerJA (talk) 20:39, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Operation Fast & Furious references

edit

I've rewritten the references to Fast & Furious, but actually removed the link in the process. I think it's much better now than before, but I would be very open to suggestions to reinclude a link to the ATF Gunwalking scandal and/or Project Gunrunner. Jaime Zapata (U.S. agent)Jaime Zapata – My understanding is that Jaime Zapata already redirects to Jaime Zapata (U.S. agent) as this is the primary topic. Hatnote should be added at top of page to point users to Jaime Zapata (U.S. deputy). If there are other Jaime Zapatas we can create Jaime Zapata (disambiguation). If it is decided that Jaime Zapata (U.S. agent) is not the primary topic then Jaime Zapata should be a disambigution page. Regards, Rejectwater (talk) 16:06, 25 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Missing Information about Zapata's previous Customs and Border Protection position

edit

I added a few sentences under his career section on his short time as a Border Patrol Agent in Yuma, Arizona. If I need to cite this somehow I'll try to follow any directions given to me. My source is myself, as I went to the U.S. Border Patrol Academy with Jaime and became his friend there. I was also stationed with him as a Border Patrol Agent. I had almost daily contact with him from 02/06/2006 until he left the Border Patrol for ICE (I can't remember exactly when later that year). — Preceding unsigned comment added by BobSmith1asdf (talkcontribs) 23:23, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
