Phil James

In the late 1960's I met Phil Lawson, in Kansas City, MO, who claimed to be Phil Lawson's younger brother. Phil was close to many of the leaders in the Black Panther movement. He was also a United Methodist minister. Was he the person he claimed to be? I don't know, even though we were friends, I thought, for two or more years. My personal email address is jlware@ruralnet1.com.

Sent email to Jim Ware: If you're still curious, pls see his bio at Soulforce board of directors ... freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from religious and political oppression. There are other references on the web; a useful Google search: James Phil Lawson.

It seems a shame that the only citations here are to the flap over intemperate remarks at the 9/11 commemoration in 2006. I suggest the article would benefit from more citations, ones beyond my competence to add. --AndersW (talk) 19:59, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the brief controversy section as criticism of Lawson's comments by FOX News is not relevant to Lawson's notability, as required by WP:BLP. If the "controversy" had been solely about Lawson (rather than criticizing all the speakers at the event), and had had some sort of lasting impact, rather than just being a 24-hour conservative pundit football, it would deserve to be in an encyclopedia article about him. Otherwise, it gives undue weight to what was actually one of the least notable events in Lawson's life. Kaldari (talk) 18:18, 13 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Check out the talk page of the editor who added the controversy section: User talk:143.231.249.141. Apparently someone at the U.S. House of Representatives is interested in smearing Lawson. Kaldari (talk) 18:35, 13 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unnecessary repetition

edit

A few sections should be combined so that the chronology is linear and the content less repetitive. For example, we learn twice that Lawson moved south and attended Vanderbilt. TrueBlueLou (talk) 15:47, 11 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
