editWow. You really don't like her, do you? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.1.28.7 (talk) 05:19, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Apparently, they certainly could have chosen a better picture of this much photographed, strong, beautiful woman! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.90.30.56 (talk) 20:21, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
She was a bit fit! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.70.140.217 (talk) 21:10, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- I also hope some one can find an image of Birkin legal to replace that very unflattering one... Mr. Cat 06:24, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Found a better image. User:Vihrea 21:41, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I added a photo I took of Jane in 1964, but Wiki removed it. I am Jane's brother, yet they refused to believe I took it!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Laurenticwave (talk • contribs) 20:42, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
Intense fan interest in English speaking locations
editAll of this editing of the BIrkin article suggests one thing: Us English speakers tremendously appreciate Birkin. By contrast, I suspect that there is a lesser frequency of editing of the counterpart French wikipedia page. Dogru144 0:24, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, in all fairness, the French article is a bit more in depth. All this editing may suggest playing catch-up on the part of native English speakers. -98.221.133.96 (talk) 00:19, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Fictionsjaneb.jpg
editImage:Fictionsjaneb.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Best known for?
editWhat is Jane Birken best known for? This ought to go in the lead just to establish notability right up front. --beefyt (talk) 21:58, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
"An outspoken proponent of democracy in Burma." Really? Does anyone care? I thought she was famous for going out with Serge Gainsbourg and, erm, nothing else really... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikey C (talk • contribs) 03:21, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- Agree. Debresser (talk) 08:46, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
- I would guess that there are very many people who care about democracy in Burma. Currently there is no mention of this in the article. Even if not worthy of the lead section, this might need to be added? When did it ever exist in the article? 205.239.40.3 (talk) 11:41, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- e.g. here's a Reuters source from May 2009. 205.239.40.3 (talk) 12:33, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Dame Jane Birkin?
editIf she has won the OBE, shouldn't she officially be listed as Dame Jane Birkin? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MightyAtom (talk • contribs)

Relationship with Gainsbourg
editAccording to this Time interview with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg never married[1]. She reiterated this in a recent interview with The Guardian, but the article has since been deleted. There has never been any evidence of marriage, and Sylvia Simmons' Gainsbourg biography stops at saying that they were engaged in 1970 but that it was called-off when Birkin fell pregnant. Is this evidence enough to change the article to say they were never married? Perry (talk) 15:21, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- "Contrary to rumors, Jane and Serge never did marry. "He said in France I'd need to be fingerprinted and have a blood sample," Jane says, "and I was slightly offended and said, 'What on earth for?' I also had a secret fear that marriage changed things, and so, in fact, we weren't.""Vanity Fair, 2007. Fences&Windows 16:24, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- "Serge Gainsbourg and actress Jane Birkin often referred to each other as husband and wife, but in fact they were never married, according to Ms. Birkin's agent. An earlier version of this article incorrectly referred to Ms. Birkin twice as the late Mr. Gainsbourg's third wife." Wall Street Journal, 2011. Fences&Windows 16:34, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
- Compare the discussion at Talk:Serge_Gainsbourg#Age_when_married. Both articles now have the same text, that they were not married. Debresser (talk) 23:12, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Please see the continuation of this issue at Talk:Serge_Gainsbourg#Continuation. Debresser (talk) 23:16, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- Please don't remove the well cited information about them not being married despite reports to the contrary, unless you can get consensus here to do so. Fences&Windows 19:37, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
I love you ... me neither???
editWouldn't "Je t'aime ... moi non plus" translate to "I don't love you ... either" iso. impossible construct above? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghpwc (talk • contribs) 12:29, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
- No, that would be wrong. Trust me, I'm a fluent French speaker. --El Ingles (talk) 14:40, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
- GoogleTranslate currently gives: "I love you... me neither". What does it actually mean? Thanks. 205.239.40.3 (talk) 14:07, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Sophie Hunter not related to Birkin as claimed
editI am removing the recent inclusion that Sophie Hunter is Birkin's niece as it does not seem to be accurate. Promotional materials for The Isis Project simultaneously claim that Hunter is Birkin's niece and a "distant relation"(1). Certainly, when comparing their families in the peerage, there is no immediate link(2,3) so I do not find it to be credible, much less notable.

- The Sophie Hunter article has no mention of Birkin. So this is likely to be misunderstanding/ mis-reporting. The two current sources both claim she is a niece, as well a claim about vocals for an album by The Isis Project. But are they reliable? If not, I suggest this claim should be removed. 205.239.40.3 (talk) 14:10, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- It's now been removed anyway, on the basis that "Wikipedia is not an obituary". 205.239.40.3 (talk) 15:26, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

She doesn’t have a French citizenship, Stop trying to make her French national until you can provide the evidence for that
editPlease provide sources and evidences, if She really holds a “French citizenship” before claiming trolling based on your biased personal opinion that She has a French citizenship when She does not, since These is no sources for that, the fact that She is 100% English blood from head to toe and there is no such thing as French in her biological body, and There is no evidences that She applied or holds a French citizenship, She is not a French national by both technically and biologically, please provide evidences that She has a “French citizenship” — Preceding unsigned comment added by 171.98.97.233 (talk) 10:49, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
Jane Birkin has a French Citizenship and becomes French and was naturlized French in 1970. I found you a reference who can prove it.

Image
editWould it not be appropriate to use an image of her at her peak rather than when she was 70? She became a star based on her beauty - to not show it doesn’t do her memory justice. Rustygecko (talk) 13:44, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- I agree and have replaced the lead picture with one from the 1970s. Andrew🐉(talk) 21:14, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
Source
editIs this source reliable and/or useful? It purports to be based on Andrew Birkin's Jane & Serge: A Family Album, "a collection of intimate photos of his sister Jane Birkin and her longtime paramour Serge Gainsbourg." Among other things it claims: "Other passions: gambling on games of chess and roulette, smoking Gitanes cigarettes, and drinking heavily. ... One time while in Nepal, Jane and Serge got so stoned “they never dared nor desired to repeat the experience.
