Requested move
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Moved as requested. The argument requiring that a reader accidentally type a word in another language, complete with diacritic, presents no basis in policy and too remote of a concern to be given weight. There is otherwise consensus for the move. bd2412 T 18:20, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
Japón (film) → Japón – This film is the only “Japón” on Wikipedia, so the disambiguation is unnecessary. Japón currently redirects to Japan because it is its Spanish name, but Spanish is not related to Japan. It would be deleted if came up at WP:RFD. Gorobay (talk) 20:22, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Neutral- the nom is off a bit, this isn't the only “Japón” on Wikipedia there's a Mecano song mentioned on album article Ya Viene el Sol, and again on their only live album Mecano: En Concierto. Japon (French) currently redirects to Japan. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:30, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose - Japón (Calle 13 song) was a 2006 breakthrough hit according to the Calle 13 (band) article, also later released on Los de Atrás Vienen Conmigo. The template has this song but no article yet. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:42, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- By “on Wikipedia” I meant “currently having an article on Wikipedia”. Gorobay (talk) 12:26, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes I guessed that, but whether something is standalone or covered in another article doesn't matter per WP:DAB. Someone could easily make the Japón (Calle 13 song) article with less bytes than this RM. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:35, 25 October 2013 (UTC)

- Strong support; the movie would almost certainly win primary topic over anything else you could call "Japón" on this Wikipedia. Red Slash 18:19, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose - The film can't be recognized as "Japon" without (film) in it. George Ho (talk) 19:45, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
- Can you clarify? Red Slash 00:38, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- The article can't be called simply "Japon" just because there is only one article of the same name. "Japon" works as a redirect to Japan, and you can't fix that. George Ho (talk) 05:59, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- But it's a completely unneeded redirect. No one (or almost no one) who speaks English would type in "Japón" to get to Japan. Red Slash 23:06, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
- Would some accidental typo count? George Ho (talk) 02:40, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
- That would be difficult for English Wikipedia users since English keyboards lack a specific ó key. — AjaxSmack 01:30, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well, they can type Japon; well there is Japon (film) already. --George Ho (talk) 22:41, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

- This RM is about Japón. Its result will not affect Japon. Japon should not affect its result. Gorobay (talk) 22:50, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yet somehow, the diacritic is essential, and why must source associate the base word with diacritic mark to primarily the film? There could be Spanish sources using "Japón" for Japan, like Clarin and El Mundo. Search them in Google News while you can. George Ho (talk) 22:58, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

- Support per nom. --BDD (talk) 18:46, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support per nom. This is the only thing with an article that could be called "Japón", with that spelling and accent. If items like the song get an article, or even any real coverage in another article, distinguish with a hat note. Similar names like "Japon" have no actual bearing here. No one is served by leaving this a redirect to Japan.--Cúchullain t/c 15:52, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
