Bench Press

edit

I have a very very hard time believing that at the combine, he could only lift 13 reps of 225 as a defensive end. DE Mario Williams at the combine lifted 35 reps of 225. Even quarterbacks such as Brady Quinn can lift 22 reps. We're probably going to need a DEFINITE citation for that one. Rocky 17:49, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

http://www.footballnation.com/content/nfl-combine-history-defensive-ends-poor-bench-press-not-uncommon/28695/ supports 13 reps for Allen though does not explain why. Maybe that day was his leg day? http://www.muscleandfitness.com/workouts/athletes-and-celebrities/jared-allens-nfl-old-school-training says Jared Allen focuses on leg strength. http://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?f=Jared&l=Allen&i=6742 also has 13 reps but as that site is a fan effort and so may not be a WP:RS. The site's About page has a comment, presumably from the site owner, that says he compiles the numbers from news reports. It's unfortunate he does not cite the actual reports used for each number about a player.
At present the article uses www.nfldraftscout.com as a source. It appears that site is operated by CBS News implying some reliability. Unfortunately, at the site is broken at the moment and Jared_Allen's page has no data for the combine results. --Marc Kupper|talk 20:26, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Native of???

edit

Fixed His birthplace as Dallas, TX seems to be accurate as that is also what is listed on his nfl.com profile page. But this article also says that he is a "Native of California" - I would change it, but I'm wondering if there is some reason that California is listed there at all. He's clearly not a native since he was born in Texas. Could someone who knows clear this up? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Possum61 (talkcontribs) 17:34, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's possible his family was living in California and his mother happened to be in Dallas the day he was born. His web site main page says "Hometown: Los Gatos, Calif"[1] The bio on his web site says "Raised on the outskirts of San Jose, California on a horse ranch"[2] Per jus soli he would be called a native of the United States of America and we would not distinguish which state, much less which city, the mother was in the moment gave birth to someone.
The good news is that word "native" no longer appears in the article though it did back in January 2009. --Marc Kupper|talk 19:43, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Signature Move

edit

Jared Allen is famous for his "roping the calf" celebration after getting a sack, this is a thing he is well known for and does it after every sack. Please mention this information, im not sure where you could site it being from, but the move is easily recognized if you watch a game he gets a sack in.

He's roping a calf? Every time I see it I think he's doing a jack-in-the-box type thing. Might be hard to find a citation for this celebration though. I might try, but where do you think it should fit into the article? Cocytus [»talk«] 17:47, 1 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I always thought he was wolfing down an invisible bowl of cereal or something, as a metaphor for "eating QBs for breakfast". – PeeJay 01:18, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I dont know were it could be put in the article. As for citation couldnt you cite CBS or somthing cause he has done it on national TV before. You maybe wouldnt need to cite it as it is a well known thing about him. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.188.189.79 (talk) 23:27, 13 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Culinary Academy

edit

It's funny when Jared Allen introduces himself on games saying that he's an alumnus of Culinary Academy. But it's stupid when you change his biography to omit references to Idaho State. So quit it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jbohanon (talkcontribs) 02:13, 6 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Position

edit

I understand John Fox has suggested the Bears will play a 3-4 defensive front in 2015 with Allen playing as an outside linebacker, but that doesn't mean we should list his position as "Outside linebacker" in this article. He's played his entire career as a defensive end, which vastly outweighs a position he hasn't played at all yet. – PeeJay 22:54, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
