Hi! I have been working to improve this article in the past couple of days. I have created an infobox, cited many sources, and rearanged the images, just to name some changes. I hope it is well liked by the community. --Henry W. Schmitt 23:26, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Jarvis v. Baker

This page only says the UK annexed the island and not that it was occupied by the UK as a territory. They did annex it illegitmately. I guess I'll add that. Thanks. Reaganamerican 12:53, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, claims under the guano act could lapse if an island wasn't dug or was later abandoned. New Zealand entrepreneurs, then the British government swooped in after American commercial interests left but although there was still guano to be had there, nobody thought any big subsequent investment to restart operations would be worthwhile and aside from a few fleeting guano runs and visits there was no meaningful followup. The island had been more or less abandoned for half a century when the US reclaimed it for a Pacific airports and military presence scheme in 1935. Gwen Gale (talk) 06:11, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
