editIs JP considered a freedom fighter?
Ofcourse, without doubt, he is considered a freedom fighter. However, he, Aruna Asaf Ali etc. were all a part of what was called the younger brigade. -- Gurubrahma 23:22, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
Merge notice
editI think the merge suggestion is a good one. We can merge the contents of those page here and make that a re-direct. Let's wait for a week for comments. If there is no objection, I'll merge it on the 20th of October. --Gurubrahma 23:22, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Birthplace
editWe seem to be going back and forth regarding whether Narayan's birthplace was a village in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh, and we seem to be finding sources that verify both. The basic rule is that if reliable sources disagree then we show all opinions. However, before I amend the article to reflect this I wonder if the issue is that the village was once in one jurisdiction and has since moved to another. If this is the case then we need to use the jurisdiction as it was at the time of his birth. Can anyone clarify? - Sitush (talk) 20:08, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
- Dear Sitush, I have edited the birth of place with hisporically correct names as per my talk page interaction with you few days earlier. Jethwarp (talk) 16:57, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I'm afraid that I am still playing catch-up. - Sitush (talk) 20:41, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
Noticed citation required on birthdate. Have now updated. Also, included some additional information on JP's marriage. Prodigyhk (talk) 08:01, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
hey i would like to clear the thoughts on it. I belong to the same village and it is said by those people who are quite elderly and were there when JP was alive that JP was born in the Sitabdiara village that is a part of Bihar state and later he moved to the nearby village because of an epidemic. Now the village is on the merge of extinction due to heavy soil erosion as it is surrounded by two rivers, the Ganges and Saryu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.18.75.98 (talk) 21:19, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Please add religion to the infobox...
editPlease add religion to the infobox. It's important to mention the religious views of prominent people. Especially when they are atheists or agnostics — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.87.147 (talk) 19:35, 27 October 2013 (UTC)
Copyright Violation?
editHi! I was adding citations (where ever i could) at the various "citations needed" tags (and removing them in the process). This is when i came across some lines in the wiki article ("Death" section that have been lifted as it is from JD(S) official site (jds.ind.in/j-p-narayan/).
I am quoting the lines here:
" In March 1979, while he was in hospital, his death had been erroneously announced by the Indian prime minister, causing a brief wave of national mourning, including the suspension of parliament and regular radio broadcasting, and the closure of schools and shops. When he was told about the gaffe a few weeks later, he smiled.[15]"
Someone kindly verify, whether this falls under copyright violation. If it does, i am willing to paraphrase. 7Sidz (talk) 20:36, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
- @7Sidz:, it is difficult to be sure. The earliest version of the JDS website that I can find is 25 Feb 2013 (see here) and at that point our article contained the same information (see here). I think it is probably best to assume the worst and try to use alternate sources & rephrase material for all of the JDS citations, not just the one that you have found. The reason for this is that if it is not a copyright violation then it could equally be a WP:MIRROR situation, in which case we're creating a circular reference by citing the JDS site. - Sitush (talk) 15:43, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
- @Sitush: I am in agreement. On the lookout then, for other sources that can serve verifiable references.
