Factual error
editSorry, just a reader who saw an error here. Probably I'm not handling this correctly.
In the 1970s section of the article, it says about a concert: "drawing more than 1 trillion spectators." Obviously, there are not enough humans on Earth for that. I don't know the correct number though. Hope someone can correct this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:587:A012:C800:8550:A11C:5BC7:F6E4 (talk) 21:58, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
CISAC Presidency
editIn June 2013, Jarre was appointed president of a non-profit creator's rights organisation called CISAC. There is a section covering this on the French language version of this page but not here on the English version.
I've translated the content and tried to add some detail below - might this be a worthwhile inclusion on this page?
CISAC Presidency
On June 5, 2013, Jean Michel Jarre was appointed President of CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers); an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation that aims to promote the rights of creators worldwide. In this role he succeeds painter Hervé Di Rosa who was interim president since the death of the musician and long-time president Robin Gibb in 2012. Jarre is supported by four vice presidents representing CISAC’s creative repertoires: Beninese creator and singer Angélique Kidjo; Senegalese sculptor Ousmane Sow; Indian poet, scriptwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar; and Argentinean film director Marcelo Piñeyro.

- Seems ok to me but it only needs the first sentence, the rest is more about CISAC than Jarre. Parrot of Doom 15:47, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
Rampling her son
editAnyone else find something comically obscene in this sentence: "The two married, Jarre gaining custody of his daughter Émilie Charlotte, and Rampling her son Barnaby"? No? Oh well. 86.136.110.44 (talk) 04:15, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Laser Harp Removed From "Instruments"
editAlthough I'm a huge fan, I'm also a fan of accuracy. I removed the laser harp entry from the list of instruments just below the first picture. The laser harp is not an instrument. It is a triggerig device only. It creates no music itself. It simply triggers the attached synthesizer. To call it an instrument would be akin to calling the antennae on a theremin an instrument. The AX-Synth played at the opening of "Water For Life" is much more an instrument. The laser harp is a spectacular device to witness in use, but in terms of electronic music technology, it could be replaced with the most minimal keyboard with two octaves of keys and a MIDI out, and with your eyes closed you'd never know the difference. As for the "Laser Harp In Helsinki" comment above, the synth is operating with a time gate. Cutting the beam has to last long enough or else the synth is not triggered. Although it does afford the capability to correct wrong "notes", it was intended primarily to prevent spurious triggerings by moths, sequins falling off the "mirrored" gloves, etc. This is why it is never used to play faster melodies. Drmcclainphd (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 10:25, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- A keyboard works in exactly the same way so I have reverted your change. Parrot of Doom 10:40, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Jean Michel or Jean-Michel
editAlmost all references I find on the net are Jean-Michel, not Jean Michel. 2A01:2B0:305A:54:89E8:C197:56CC:417B (talk) 11:44, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
In French "Jean-Michel" is a first name (i.e. "Michel" is not his middle name, there are very few middle names in France). Moreover on his CD cover art he's using "Jean-Michel" as well. As such, the article should say "Jean-Michel Jarre", not "Jean Michel Jarre". NicooIgloo (talk) 05:42, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
- It's been a long time since I checked but I'm reasonably certain that JMJ once referred to himself as "Jean Michel". Perhaps that's where the current format came from. His Facebook and Twitter now use a hyphen though, so perhaps we should change it to reflect that. Parrot of Doom 10:15, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
- Album artwork has mixed spelling. Sometimes both variants appear on the same medium in non-stylized regular type. The conventional hyphenated version is exclusively found on the very early and most recent albums. The version with a space seems to be found on International releaases more often, but that generalization could be wrong. I normally refer to Wikipedia for the normalized spelling of music artists, and have all my metadata tags "wrong" now... -- J7n (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:01, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

Jean Michel Jarre → Jean-Michel Jarre – His first name in French is "Jean-Michel", "Michel" is not a middle name (middle names are uncommon in French). This is proven by the covert art of his CDs which say "Jean-Michel", e.g. http://jeanmicheljarre.com/ . Additionally on Wikipedia FR the article title is "Jean-Michel": https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Michel_Jarre NicooIgloo (talk) 03:20, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

- Comment from closer – Sorry, I closed this too early, after performing a wave of snow closes on frivolous RMs by an IP. Despite unanimous support for the move, I should have let the discussion run for 7 days. Slapping self with fresh trout now. I'm not reverting the move because that would be disruptive at this time but I'll agree to relisting the case for a week if the decision is contested. — JFG talk 07:20, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Video demonstration of 1970's Oxygen synthesizers
editJean Michel Jarre wanders around his studio demonstrating his collection of 70's synthesizer. Moog, ARP 2500, Mellitron and other early electronic instruments used on Oxygen. Great video of the equipment in action.

Somehow a great Electronic music pioneer deserved to have a good article. Jean-Michel Jarre has done several inventive and innovative things as an electronic musician, and he even earned a Guinness World Record for largest concert attendance ever. I'm an electronic music fan, I really love Jean-Michel Jarre. Parrot of Doom has done a great job at this article. However, someone else requested a GAR on this thing because it's becoming less fresh as of now. I read this article recently and found that currently, this article has gained issues. The quality is degrading, I want to upgrade it. The prose isn't in a decent shape like in the past, some of the references are dead links and/or not using "cite" templates or something like that, the sections could've been rearranged more, at least it seems like it from this point. Also, some red links are present (some of them have links to foreign-language versions of Wikipedia articles), I am suspicious that some parts need citation integrity, and some refs are unreliable... Well, the current version of the Jean-Michel Jarre article as of writing has to be rewritten entirely to comply with the current GA criteria. Potentially, this must remain a GA in the future. ias:postb□x 12:39, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
- I would say that the writing from the 2000s section and beyond that could be way better. With bad GAs too, the reliable sourcing usually falls off from there. Some instances of his touring could be spun off into a separate article, while his artistry could be elaborated in a different section, readers may like to know who influenced him and such. Edit: Correction, I saw his influences but I still wish to see article arranged more properly. 웃OO 21:08, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
- I agree, I consider making a special sandbox for this article, where I'll make those ideas you suggested. ias:postb□x 00:18, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- It's been over 10 days since the last time I commented in this GAR here, and hardly anything's happened except for an IP edit making a 2020s section with external hyperlinks and no referential cite templates, and then on that same day a bot reverted it because it's link additions not listed as sources at the bottom of the article. -iaspostb□x+ 01:03, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
