Terminology

The term aviatrix is both antiquated and pejorative. Gendered terms can be interpreted as sexist, particularly when the person's sex is beside the point. It was only in fashion briefly around the time women were finally allowed to vote, well before Jeana Yeager was born. Practically no one uses it nowadays to refer to women aviators. Here's what some reference sources have to say about it:

• The Concise Oxford Companion to the English Language calls aviatrix "now rare"
• Language and the Sexes says aviatrix has a "clear trivializing effect"
• The SAGE Handbook of Sociolinguistics points out that aviatrix tends to "carry negative connotations having undergone processes of semantic slippage"
• The Columbia Guide to Standard American English refers to aviatrix as "archaic or even obsolete"

Three different editors have now tried to remove the term over the objections of one. Since the consensus seems to be against using it, I'm going to go ahead and replace the term with aviator. Gobōnobō ^{+ c} 02:04, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Added Further reading information

Added a further reading section, including two new external sources. Both these sources are books that contain information about Yeager or the Voyager flight.

• Voyager by Jeana Yeager, Phil Patton, and Dick Rutan - A primary source describing what the pilots of the Rutan Voyager experienced during their 9 day trip.
• Women of strength : biographies of 106 who have excelled in traditionally male fields, A.D. 61 to the present by Louis Baldwin - A collection of descriptions about women of many different backgrounds. Contains an excerpt on Jeana Yeager and her career.

Relatives

Is there any relation between Jeana and Chuck Yeager? I guess that just because they have the same last name and hold records in aviation, they do not have to be related, but it would be cool. That used to be in the article, supported by the reference [1] ("Yeager--no relation to that other famous test pilot, Chuck Yeager"), but it was removed about a year ago. I think it's worth including. It's a natural question. TJRC (talk) 14:45, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
