Talk:Jehangir H. Kothari

There is a tombstone in the main city cemetery of Trieste, Italy, that bears the inscription "Sir Jehangir H. Kothari, Kt., O.B.E., K.I.H. Born 16 November 1855, Died 1st November 1934" I assume that this is the same Seth Jehangir Hormusji Kothari who is the subject of this Wikipedia article. Does anyone know what Sir Jehangir was doing in Trieste in 1934, and what was the cause of his death? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Penruddock (talkcontribs) 20:26, 9 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I find this difficult to believe, as the potted biography submitted by him for publication in the Who's Who of India for 1912 gives his date of birth as 9 November 1857 and the London Portrait Gallery records his death in 1937. However I'm not dismissing the previous identification entirely, as he was a KiH and "Seth" means "Sir". If the above is correct another of his "world tours" would have explained his presence in Italy. If he did have an OBE that should be recorded elsewhere. I am convinced. The DOD matches that recorded with the administration of his will, A KBE, OBE and KiH all turn up. The only thing not matching is the DOB. Perhaps the inscription has been misquoted. It would be good to have a photograph of the same. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a local genealogical group in Trieste who might be persuaded to provide the same.
