Esslemont Family
editI tripped across the Esslemont family website which mentions this John E - I've already contacted them about a revision of their entry for him and when posted it should look much nicer. See Esslemont/Esselmont Photo Galleries and click on Peter (Patrick) Esslemont for several pictures and comments including this wikipedia article's subject.--Smkolins (talk) 14:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Web pages change - the urls are now For pictures and genealogical entry various events among many of the family tree
Other contributions
editWhile I'm at it there are some other additions to consider - one is Esslemont's interest in Esperanto (see for example Dr. Esslemont is also noted as being interested and teaching Esperanto - see Making World Peace Real by Paul Dessaily and search for Esslemont.--Smkolins (talk) 14:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- This seems to require further review - there was a previous edit adding Esslemont as an Esprantist - I don't know if that's a valid label but it's not out of hand wrong given one or two refs as above (another one mentioned he spoke 6 languages adding Persian and Arabian after becoming a Baha'i.) On the other hand that edit was removed with a flat statement that Esslemont was not an Esperantist. So I wonder what to do.--Smkolins (talk) 03:31, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
A second contribution was an unpublished Esslemont’s Survey of the Bahā’ī Community 1919-1920 characterized as "The importance of this material lies firstly in the fact that this is the first attempt to survey the whole world-wide Bahā'ī community and provides a valuable picture of this community at that early date and secondly in the value of the historical information coming from such important figures. It is of course a pity that Esslemont did not ever write the chapter itself as his assessment of this material would in itself have been valuable." by Dr. M. Momen. --Smkolins (talk) 14:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Another detail might be to frame George Townshend, Thomas Breakwell, and John Esslemont together as the three luminaries. --Smkolins (talk) 14:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Grave site
editI found pictures of Esslemont's grave site at a U.K. Bahá'í Heritage Site--Smkolins (talk) 14:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Memorial Lecture series
editJohn Esslemont Memorial Lecture "is held annually in June in Aberdeen, where speakers from medical backgrounds present research to fellow peers from the Aberdeen universities and the surrounding NHS hospitals.".--Smkolins (talk) 15:53, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Connection to Early Australian Baha'is
editWilliam Miller (b. Glasgow 1875) and Annie Miller (b. Aberdeen 1877) THE FIRST BELIEVERS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA --Smkolins (talk) 16:01, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
more early refs
editEarly British Bahá'í History (1898-1930) notes - "in Bournemouth where Dr. John E. Esslemont (d. 1925) became a Bahá'í in early 1915. A small Bahá'í group was formed from among his friends, colleagues, and former patients. Among these was Sister Grace Challis who was later a member of the British National Spiritual Assembly."--Smkolins (talk) 16:07, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
M.B., Ch.B., F.B.E.?
editI know he was an M.D. but don't recognize these - and it would be nice to note the particulars if found....--Smkolins (talk) 16:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- One step forward and two steps back - I now see "J.E., M.B., Ch.B., F.B.E.A." which I've partly figured out....--Smkolins (talk) 00:34, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK - I figured out in context the "J.E." is really his initials. Most the refs to FBEA I see seem related to Esperanto - if you google for FBEA and Esperato you get a lot of hits.--Smkolins (talk) 01:25, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
