Jose Trevino (baseball) → Jose Trevino – I think this page should probably be moved. There is only one other topic on wikipedia with this exact name, José Treviño (footballer), and even then that page uses diacritics, and this page is more viewed anyway per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. --Quiz shows 17:57, 15 April 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. - Oppose—I know we're talking about the ENGLISH wikipedia here, but if you look at the Spanish Wikipedia, you'll find that the baseball player does not have an article at all, and the footballer is primary. That being said, there is a Wikipedia:Article_titles#Special_characters which suggests that the current situation, with Jose Trevino redirecting to José Treviño is the preferred situation, though it does support a (presumably) hatnote cross-reference if the primary use of the un-diacritic'd name is an article. Personally, I don't see a reason to change this, unless reducing traffic through the disambiguation page is a primary driver - which I don't think it should be. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 16:05, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. Better clarity with the current title. 162 etc. (talk) 15:33, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. Since the baseball player's name is not accented, the parenthetical qualifier should remain at Jose Trevino (baseball) and the unaccented form Jose Trevino should become the main title header of the José Treviño disambiguation page, as proposed in the newly-submitted nomination at Talk:José Treviño#Requested move 9 May 2022. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 16:44, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Treviño or Trevino?
editI am the daughter of two Spanish teachers, and it was drilled into me from an early age to spell and pronounce Spanish names (and other Spanish words) correctly. Technically, Treviño is the correct spelling.
It may be that the subject of this article doesn't care how his name is pronounced, but that doesn't change what's technically correct.
Just sayin'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.198.85.24 (talk) 01:16, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
- There’s no ñ in his last name. Hence it is not pronounced with the Yo at the end. It is simply trevi-NO. Doesn’t matter what’s common it’s how it’s spelled and how you pronounce it 2600:1014:B141:566A:607C:3DE2:40F5:233D (talk) 21:35, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- It is pronounced trəVEENyo (see the Yankees official pronunciation guide) but he doesn't spell it with the ⟨ñ⟩, nor does he spell his given name with the accented ⟨é⟩. Ibadibam (talk) 18:38, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
