Request for edit

Could someone please edit the first sentence to remove the redundant and vague word "ambassador," given that the next clause provides the official title. It makes it sound like he's an ambassador in addition to being the WTO representative for Grenada, when in fact it's one and the same position. Also, please remove the self-promotional and neutrality infringing term "record-breaking" from the sentence: "Sun placed the record-breaking $4.6 million bid to have a private lunch with Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett..."

Request edit: Updates to introduction and "Education"

Hello, I'm Sam, an employee of Tron DAO. I am taking over the work of User:Ron at Tron here. Following up on Ron's work to update the infobox (thanks again User:CX Zoom), I have put together a list of suggested edits to update and give structure to the body of the article, and I will post them in a series of three edit requests (this being the first). I hope editors will review these suggested edits to the introduction and "Education" section and implement them on my behalf if they are seen as improvements to Wikipedia.

Introduction

  • Change the current introduction: "Justin Sun (Chinese: 孙宇晨; pinyin: Sūn Yǔchén; born July 30, 1990) is a Chinese cryptocurrency entrepreneur, and business executive. He is the founder of Tron (founded July 2017), a blockchain DAO ecosystem. Sun is the Permanent Representative of Grenada to the WTO."
    • To: Justin Sun (Chinese: 孙宇晨; pinyin: Sūn Yǔchén; born July 30, 1990) is a Chinese-born diplomat, cryptocurrency entrepreneur, and business executive. He is best known as the founder of Tron, a blockchain DAO ecosystem, and for high-profile bidding events. Sun is the Permanent Representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.
      • Reason for the change: This adds Sun's current role as diplomat to the introductory sentence; adds appropriate wikilinks; adds his high-profile bidding events (for which Sun has generated significant coverage); and spells out World Trade Organization

Education

  • Change section title: "Education"
    • To: "Early life and education"
      • Reason for the change: This meets the style typically used on biography articles
  • Change: "B.A. in History"
    • To: "Bachelor of Arts degree in history"
      • Reason for the change: Basic copy editing
  • Change: M.A. in East Asia Studies
    • To: "Master of Arts degree in East Asian studies"
      • Reason for the change: Basic copy editing and wikilink
  • Add to the end of the section: "It was at UPenn where Sun became interested in cryptocurrency and invested early in bitcoin.[1] Sun was a protégé of Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma; he studied at Hupan University, a business school in China founded by Ma, where Sun was recognized as the school's first Millennial graduate in 2018.[2] Sun became the cover figure of Yazhou Zhoukan in 2011,[1] and became a Davos Global Shaper in 2014.[3]"
    • Reason for the change: Adds important context about Sun's interest in cryptocurrency; adds context to Sun's time at Hupan University; copy edits info on Yozhou Zhoukan and Davos Global Shapers, which is currently in the "Career" section, but is more appropriate in "Early life and education"

Greetings! I am Ron, an employee at Tron DAO. I am here to request edits to this article's infobox with rather basic updates. My proposed infobox updates includes the following improvements:

  • Adds an image of Justin Sun
  • Adds Sun's role as Permanent Representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization
  • Updates Term to reflect his role at at the WTO
  • Adds Sun's honorific prefix
  • Adds "Diplomat" under Occupation
  • Adds "Founder of Tron" under Known for
  • Adds url to Website

The current article's infobox is outdated (failing to mention Sun's WTO role) and inaccurate (he is no longer CEO of Rainberry, Inc.). The "short description" is also outdated, as it currently lists "Tech entrepreneur"; this could read "Diplomat and tech entrepreneur".

If editors agree this is an improvement, I ask if you could update the infobox on my behalf. I am not editing the article directly because of my conflict of interest.

@Ron at Tron: The image of Justin Sun has been deleted because you do not appear to own copyright of the image as claimed during upload. WP:Copyright violations is a very serious issue and may carry legal consequences. Please consider to upload images, whose copyright you actually own, or, have explicit permission from the copyright holder. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 19:55, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
@CX Zoom: Thank you for this message. To be clear: I did not upload this image to Wikimedia Commons. That was done by another editor, although I can't find the history on Wikimedia Commons since it has been deleted. I had included the image in my proposed infobox because it was in Wikimedia Commons, but if the uploader did not do so properly, I understand why it was deleted. That said, I have photos that I can upload later with proper permissions as I get more familiar with Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. Thanks. Ron at Tron (talk) 02:52, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
I'm sorry because I did not know that as I too could not see the editing/upload history of that file now. I mistakenly thought that you added the image. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 07:03, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
@Ron at Tron: Can you provide a reliable & secondary source for Sun's honorific prefix? The rest of the changes seem fine, and will complete the request following a response from you. Thanks! CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 07:07, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
@CX Zoom: Wired UK uses the honorific "His excellency" in this story. If this source does not work for you, we can move forward with the rest of the infobox updates, and I can always come back with a better source for the honorific when one becomes available. Does this work? Ron at Tron (talk) 18:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Partly done: Apart from the image and honorific, completed the rest of edit request. Since, permanent representative to the WTO is a political office, used Infobox officeholder. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 21:34, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
Noting that "His Excellency" is only a passing mention, and I'm not sure if it was used just to put more emphasis, if it is appropriate enough for inclusion, considering that most diplomats even those from UK aren't referred to as HE on Wikipedia at least. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 21:40, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
@CX Zoom: Thank you! The infobox looks much better, especially how it uses Infobox officeholder. Would you also be willing to update the "short description" at the top of the source code from "Tech entrepreneur" to "Diplomat and tech entrepreneur"?
I am currently working on other proposed changes that I will bring to this Talk page when they are ready. Thanks! Ron at Tron (talk) 14:03, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
  Done. Added that he is a Grenadian diplomat. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 14:10, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
Hello CX Zoom,
I just added a request to add an image of HE Justin Sun. Please take a look and approve it when you can, I do have authorization to post it, thanks!

Request edit: Updates to "Career"

Hello, I'm Sam, an employee of Tron DAO. Since I have a conflict of interest, I am asking editors to review the following suggested updates to the "Career" section. I hope editors will review these suggested edits and implement them on my behalf if they are seen as improvements to Wikipedia.

Career

  • Add a subheading just under the "Career" header: "Technology"
    • Reason for the change: This will provide a designated place for information on Sun's career in the technology industry
  • Change paragraph: "Sun studied at Hupan University and became the cover figure of Yazhou Zhoukan in 2011 and Davos Global Youth Leaders in 2014. In 2015 he was named CNTV's most noteworthy new entrepreneur, and was named in Forbes China 30 Under 30 from 2015 through 2017."
    • To: "In late 2013, Sun joined Ripple Labs as chief representative and adviser.[1] In 2014, he founded Peiwo, a Chinese voice-based social networking app.[2][3] He was named CNTV's most noteworthy new entrepreneur in 2015, and was included in Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia list from 2015 to 2017.[3][4]"
      • Reason for the change: Removes material proposed for "Early life and education"; adds information on Ripple Labs and Peiwo; copy edits info on CNTV's most noteworthy new entrepreneur and Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia
  • Change: "In September 2017 his company Tron held an initial coin offering (ICO) for the TRN token, a few days before the Chinese government banned ICOs. According to The Verge, Sun was aware of the impending ban, and pushed for the sale to occur before the ban could be announced. Shortly afterwards, Sun left China for the United States."
    • To: "Sun founded the blockchain-based operating platform Tron and launched the TRX token in 2017.[1][5] In September 2017 his company Tron held an initial coin offering (ICO) for the TRN token, a few days before the Chinese government banned ICOs. According to The Verge, Sun was aware of the impending ban, and pushed for the sale to occur before the ban could be announced. Shortly afterwards, Sun left China for the United States.[6] Tron raised about $70 million at its ICO.[7]"
      • Reason for the change: Includes a sentence about Sun's founding of Tron and the launch of the TRX token in 2017; adds the amount Tron raised in its ICO
  • Add new paragraph: "Sun acquired Rainberry, Inc., which develops the BitTorrent peer-to-peer communication protocol, in June 2018.[8] During his tenure leading BitTorrent as CEO, the BitTorrent network launched its own utility token, BTT.[9][10]"
    • Reason for the change: This adds Sun's acquisition of Rainberry, Inc., and the launch of its utility token, BTT
  • Remove: "Sun placed the record-breaking $4.6 million bid to have a private lunch with Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett in June 2019, before cancelling it to widespread surprise. The lunch with Buffett eventually occurred in January 2020."
    • Reason for the change: This topic does not belong in "Career". See suggestion below
  • Remove: "On 11 March 2021, Sun was the underbidder on the historic $69M auction at Christie's New York of the Beeple non-fungible token (NFT) collection Everydays: the First 5000 Days."
    • Reason for the change: This topic does not belong in "Career". See suggestion below
  • Change: "In October 2021, Sun participated in a $65 million funding round in Animoca."
    • To: "In October 2021, Sun participated in a $65 million funding round in Hong Kong-based Animoca, a maker of crypto and blockchain video games such as The Sandbox.[11]"
      • Reason for the change: Adds context on Sun's investment in Animoca
  • Remove: "In December 2021, Sun announced he was the winner of the New Shepard auction with a bid of $28 million to be the first paying passenger to fly on the Blue Origin vehicle in July 2021. He was not able to fly on this July 2021 mission due to a scheduling conflict. However he purchased (supposedly with the $28 million auction bid, which he paid to Blue Origin in 2021) privately a full flight of New Shepard for himself and intends to select five other participants to fly with him into space in late 2022."
    • Reason for the change: This content does not belong in "Career". See suggestion below
  • Add new subsection heading at the bottom of "Career": "Diplomacy"
    • Reason for the change: This subsection will include Sun's work as permanent representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization
  • Add new paragraph under "Diplomacy" subheading: "Sun was appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2021. As a result, Sun phased out of his daily roles at his crypto-related projects such as Tron in order to focus on his diplomatic role at the WTO in Geneva. Sun told Bloomberg he would use his role to advocate cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to countries and promote technology development in Grenada. Sun said the Caribbean has "become a very good place for entrepreneurship" because of its close proximity to the U.S., with less strict regulations regarding cryptocurrency.[10]"
    • Reason for the change: Adds context on Sun's role as permanent representative of Grenada to the World Trade Organization

Request edit: "Personal life", "Bibliography", and "External links"

Hello, I'm Sam, an employee of Tron DAO. Since I have a conflict of interest, I am asking editors to review the following suggested updates to create a "Personal life" section that includes some revisions to topics already discussed in the live article, create a "Bibliography" section, and add a link to "External links". I hope editors will review these suggested edits and implement them on my behalf if they are seen as improvements to Wikipedia.

Personal life

  • Add new section header: "Personal life"
    • Reason for the change: This section could be used to house information on Sun's high-profile bids
  • Move and update info on meal with Warren Buffett: "Sun placed the winning $4.6 million bid to have a private meal with Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett in June 2019,[1][2] before canceling it to widespread surprise.[3][4] The dinner with Buffett eventually occurred in early 2020.[5] Sun met with Buffett, a critic of cryptocurrency, at the Happy Hollow Club in Omaha, Nebraska, on January 23, 2020.[6] Sun was joined by other cryptocurrency executives, including leaders of Litecoin and eToro.[6] At the dinner, Sun gifted Buffett a phone with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.[7] The money from the charity auction benefited the Glide Foundation, which Buffett's late wife Susan introduced to Buffett after volunteering there.[8]"
    • Reason for the change: This includes copy edits to the current content on the meal. Also, it adds context on the event; the beneficiary of Sun's winning bid
  • Move and update info on Blue Origin flight: "In December 2021, Sun announced he was the winner of the New Shepard auction with a bid of $28 million to be the first paying passenger to fly on the Blue Origin vehicle in July 2021, but he was not able to fly on the mission due to a scheduling conflict. He purchased (supposedly with the $28 million auction bid, which he paid to Blue Origin in 2021) privately a full flight of New Shepard for himself and intended to select five other participants to fly with him into space in late 2022.[9] The $28 million benefited Blue Origin's foundation Club for the Future.[10] However, Blue Origin rockets were grounded in 2022 following a booster failure.[11]"
    • Reason for the change: This includes copy edits which note that Sun intended to fly with Blue Origin in 2022. However, Blue Origin rockets were grounded in 2022, so that has been noted. Additionally, this includes information on the beneficiary of Sun's bid
  • Add new paragraph: "In addition, Sun is an art collector. Initially known for collecting non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital art, he has since acquired pieces made in traditional art mediums. As of 2021, he spent more than $100 million at auction for works from Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Alberto Giacometti, and Pak.[12] He has donated works to the APENFT Foundation.[13]"
    • Reason for the change: This includes information on Sun's art collection, which has been covered in reliable sources
  • Move and update the date format to MDY regarding Sun's bid on Beeple's NFT collection: "On March 11, 2021, Sun was the underbidder on the historic $69M auction at Christie's New York of the Beeple non-fungible token (NFT) collection Everydays: the First 5000 Days.[14]"
    • Reason for the change: The article should follow MDY formatting, per the source code

Bibliography

  • Add new section heading: "Bibliography"
    • Reason for the change: To include Sun's book
  • Add Sun's book to this new section: "Brave New World, 2017[15]"
    • Reason for the change: Published books are commonly included in biographies

External links

  • Add link to Sun's official website: "*Official website"
    • Reason for the change: Official websites are commonly listed in "External links" sections
