Page title and redirects
editAfter a large amount of toing and froing I managed to get what I think makes sense, Kapiti Coast is the main entry and Kapiti Coast, New Zealand and Kapiti Coast District redirect here. Ben Arnold

Is there a place called Greendale?
editI just found this article: Greendale, Kapiti. I've never heard of the place in my life and a Google search turns up nothing in the Kapiti area except Greendale Drive and Greendale Reserve in Otaihanga. I've elaborated more on Greendale, Kapiti's talk page; I've just brought the topic here to bring it to wider attention and see if any other Kapiti Coasters can provide more information and verify/deny its existence. - Axver 03:16, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I propose merging the Kapiti Coast page into Kapiti Coast District. Much of the information on each page is just duplicating the other, and I think that any information specifically about the geographical feature of the coast would suitably fall within the context of a page about the district.--Radicuil (talk) 14:26, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Comment Unless the borders of these two are exactly contiguous (which does not appear to be the case), past experience tells me it will fail. One article is a geo-centric tome, the other is political. The overlap should probably be resolved by normal editing. Regards, GenQuest "scribble" 16:43, 22 August 2022 (UTC)
- Support merger. Nurg (talk) 09:33, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- Support: I don't think the geographic feature has universally recognised boundaries, but certainly the vast bulk of it falls within the district. The geography section could note that some people consider the geographic feature to extend a bit beyond the district borders. Furius (talk) 09:04, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Kāpiti Coast District or Kapiti Coast District
editKia ora,
I read through the RM on the Kapiti Coast page (prior to it being moved under here) and I note Nurg's opinion on the case potentially being stronger for a rename of this article's page, so I thought it'd be a good idea to at least bring this up for discussion on here before actually doing an RM or changing the usage of "Kapiti" throughout the article.
From what I've seen the media tends to prefer Kāpiti Coast District over Kapiti Coast District as the common name, and so does the council. However, of course, if we go by WP:NCNZ, "Kapiti Coast District" (without the tohutō/macron) is listed as the official name on the Gazetteer. Further, there also appears to be some contention over whether Kāpiti or Kapiti is correct.
The main question here is whether we should use Kāpiti or Kapiti on this article for the council? Carolina2k22 • (talk) • (edits) 14:48, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Carolina2k22 I think it's a confusing one because the council itself uses the macron on top of the conflicting name between the media and the Gazetter as you mentioned.
- I personally think that the article needs to be renamed, however that'd be an exception to WP:NCNZ. The page itself mentions that exceptions may apply which means that if we achieve a consensus in the talk page, we should be able to add the macron. Panamitsu (talk) 08:13, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Kapiti Coast District → Kāpiti Coast District – Most of the media and the council itself uses the macron despite the Gazetter not having one. I think we can make an exception to WP:NCNZ as the district is most commonly spelt with the macron. Panamitsu (talk) 12:33, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
