The references doesn't meet WP:RS The first one is dead. Second is hosted on some IT solution company website and the third one doesn't mention anything about the so called massacre and hence am removing them. Please provide proper sources. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 15:31, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

1.Dead link fixed.
2.Its true that http://www.rnhit.com is a web hosting company, but their servers hold number of government's web sites such as http://www.nationalsecurity.lk/ (click on http://www.rnhit.com/mcns then it will redirect) --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 15:48, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Both of these unfounded sources. MCNS is Media Centre for National Security which is part of Sri Lanka Army. The tag should stay till better sources could be found. Sinhala freedom 15:50, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
http://www.rnhit.com is not WP:RS. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 15:51, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for confirming my point. Sinhala freedom 15:52, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Moreover use of http://www.spur.asn.au/ in this article doesn't meet WP:RS which states Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy and this is not a third party source. ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 16:00, 22 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Precisely, sources such as spur, Tamilcanadian, and MCNS can't be used to hang up an article. The observer India foundation also doesn't seem to be a reliable source either. Sinhala freedom 13:58, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Surely there are history books that reference this incident. If there aren't any books that reference this incident, then its not notable enough to be on wikipedia. Sinhala freedom 14:01, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
What makes you an expert to remove these source by the notion they are unreliable? you are just saying they are unreliable, could you prove? Please be more descriptive when you remove references as unreliable. Do not disrupt wikipedia to prove a point see WP:POINTNëŧΜǒńğerPeace Talks 14:05, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
You can't just add websites that show up on your google hits as reliable sources. These sources are from personal websites that anybody can write and don't have any reliability. Please tell me what is your expertise ?? Sinhala freedom 14:10, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Mr Netmonger. I'm trying very desperate to AGF with you. Please read the text of the sources before you put on the article. Tamil Nation and Observer are both the same article where the former quotes the latter. You cant use them as two different sources. Please read what it is said on WP:RS before asking anyone here about what makes a reference reliable or not. I have quoted why they are not reliable from the WP:RS page too. Please explain with context and please try to AGF with the editors. FYI the observer quotes The LTTE is on an all-out propaganda against the community beginning with the forceful eviction of Muslims from Jaffna in 1990, the ‘Kattankudi mosque massacre’ on August 31, 1990, and the more recent incident when nearly 200 Muslims were killed in the Muttur battle between the Government troops and the LTTE.. So from the above all you can say is that LTTE killed Muslims in Kattankudi on August 1990. Please note that everthing was and is discussed here in the talk page and do not accuse your fellow editors on doing unwarranted reverts. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 14:14, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please read [WP:Verify]] NëŧΜǒńğerPeace Talks 14:26, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes and WP:Verify states Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy again. That what exactly am saying why you cant use SPUR and MCNS. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 14:31, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
There is still quite a big disconnect between whats in the reliable references (NY Times and Boston Globe) and the remainder of the article. Sinhala freedom 14:54, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
They drove up in several white Toyota Hiace vans
The above statment cites four references but none of them states anything about the Toyota! The first of it is dead, second and third are the same reports (see my message above) and the fourth simply states The Tigers had come a long way indeed from the outrageous massacre of praying Muslims at the Kattankudi Mosque.
The last of all the reference [1] once again doesn't state for what its been cited for.
May I request the editors to add genuine citations, rather than adding stuff just to make the article look good.
I will wait for a reply and if its not met I will be BOLD to remove them. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 17:00, 23 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sources

edit

Guys, here are some sources for the article. I 'm not entirely free right now, so anyone who is free, please expand the article. I suggest we get rid of the citations from bs Tamil websites and stick to reliable ones only.

I expanded the article, and CSDed the sources page. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 02:14, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can we have the links to the sources you have added? If not can we know where you got the sources from? They don't seem to be archived. Cheersώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 06:39, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Also make sure you use the citation templates so that its easier to follow the sources. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 06:46, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I already provided copies of the sources in the above page for use of anyone who doesn't have access to archives of the NYT and The Times etc. Wait.. what's that? Instead of using that page you tried to get it deleted? Aw, too bad.
About citations, I will provide them however I choose. You don't like it? Tsk-tsk. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 15:51, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
When did I try to get it deleted? Please make sure of which editor you are talking to. ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 09:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Getting picky now are we? --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 11:56, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just to remind you that sarcasm is not good faith. Especially when someone gives you a suggestion (like citation template) please remember to be civil in your replies. ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 12:01, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just to remind you, accusing other editors of not acting in good faith is not on good faith. Also avoid violating NPA by accusing editors of indulging in sarcasm and not being civil. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 12:33, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can you please refer to your message timed 15:51, 25 September 2007 (UTC) and that is where you find that sarcastic remark. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 12:50, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can you refer to your messages times 12:01, 26 September 2007 and 12:50, 26 September 2007, where you violate WP:NPA guidelines by accusing other editors of being sarcastic. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 13:25, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I hate to feed the trolls but what is your point? 26th September is after 25th September!!!! I mentioned about sarcasm after you did that. So? I'm still open to AGF, but please you should try that too. Cheers ώiki Ѕαи Яоzε †αLҝ 13:29, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
What? 26th September is after 25th September??? OMG!!! I'm so taken aback by that bit of wisdom that I'm not going to bother replying to you anymore. --snowolfD4 ( talk / @ ) 13:44, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

A leap in logic

edit

Furthermore there is a leap in logic here: How can the expulsion of Muslims from Jaffna be the background to this incident ? The expulsion after all occurred later in the year. I'll wait a day to much like the previous user before doing anything about it. Reading all the sources, I think to be as NPOV as possible we need mention LTTE is the alleged culprit with attribution to the source. It can't read in a monotone as it is now. Sinhala freedom 18:41, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Citations needed

edit

Good job rewriting the article. There is one small problem here. There are no citations to news sites but the link to them is missing. Can the rewriter please add proper link to the citation given ? If this is not possible, then can you please give a ISBN or something else where the information can be checked and/or used for further editig on the article? Thanks.

If this is not possible please add other citations and remove sentences that are not backed by RS. I will wait a while before adding the citation needed and other relevant tags. Watchdogb 13:15, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Kattandakudi massacre1.jpg

edit

Image:Kattandakudi massacre1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Gory Images

edit

Here is the list of images in the article, I frankly don't see need for all of these images in an encyclopedia which will be visited by an audience with wide age group. This should be discussed and decided as to what image is most relevant to the article and what else is unnecessary. Sinhala freedom 23:34, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I've done just that, and you rejected my report. I don't mean to be rude, but it would have been nice if you hadn't advised me to make the report only to reject it. SinhalaLion (talk) 02:46, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
