Blanking of essential information without prior discussion (October 7, 2023): https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Killing_of_Dhal_Apet_and_Lueth_Mo&diff=1179069212&oldid=1179069076 173.88.246.138 (talk) 17:47, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Interesting point. One of Wikipedia's fundamental editing guidelines is "Be Bold", that means Wikipedia editors WILL edit an article without prior discussion. In response, you have the ability to undo that edit, if you disagree with it. Which I see you have done so. However, only then do you need to discuss the disagreement, as you have done, here. This is known as Wikipedia's BOLD, revert, discuss cycle and is a way of obtaining consensus on the content of an article, and applies to almost any article. Please expect this to happen. Adakiko does have a point when asking "... to limit text length in the first sentence". The purpose of the lead section is to provide an introduction to the article's subject. That means essential information to understanding an article should not appear in the lead section, or if it does, only the basic facts. The lead section is meant to be a summary overview of an article, not tease the reader like a newspaper lede does. By enclosing these essential details, as you term them, within parentheses in the lead suggests they are an aside that is not really important to know. Besides, one could summarize what you say about the subjects' heritage in a couple of words, with the full details explained in even more detail in a biographic section of the article. Basically, the essential details don't need to be in the lead, and if they are essential, they shouldn't just be mentioned in the lead but should be expanded upon in the body of the article. While it might be essential information, the lead is not the place to put it. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 22:09, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
