Soundtrack Work
editThe following portion of the soundtrack work section is completely out of sync with the rest of the paragraph in which it appears. It appears to have been thrown in randomly and reduces the overall quality of the section. Someone invested in making the page better should rewrite this portion, moving the following section to somewhere more appropriate, or removing it altogether:
- Dawson sings about diverse topics:
And there on the soundtrack ... is Kimya Dawson, her primal, primitive odes to tire swings and vampires and roller coasters goosing us along, her wobbly voice and furtively chicken-scratched double-time guitar like a terrified little kid who just ditched the training wheels and is now somehow barreling down a mountain. —Rob Harvilla, The Village Voice, 2008[7]
Brakoholic (talk) 17:17, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
This comment also grossly out of place:
- Dawson's authentic persona, sometimes compared to indie folk artists such as Quinn Marston,[8] has a demeanor which is "sheepish and guileless and awkward in a way that you really can't fake" and who sometimes looks "legitimately terrified" during performances, according to Village Voice music critic Rob Harvilla.[7]
Brakoholic (talk) 17:29, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Of what year?
- "Dawson has two new songs that were released on April 8 on a follow-up album Juno B-Sides: Almost Adopted Songs that is available exclusively on iTunes.[3]"Brakoholic (talk) 17:30, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Freebird tattoo
editWhat is a "freebird tattoo"? Does this mean lyrics to the Lynyrd Skynyrd song? Or a bird with the Confederate Flag on it? I don't think you can just say "she has a freebird tattoo" and expect people to know what you mean. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.234.144.252 (talk) 01:20, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. David Spector (talk) 17:00, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Death
editAs she was flying to Mexico for a vacation a bomb was planted and the bomb went off killing her and her band.
<<< I removed the info about her dying May 23, 2008, whatever idiot posted that needs to get a life.
Murder Ball
editI think one of her songs, or a Moldy Peaches song is featured in the documentary Murder Ball. Can anyone confirm? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.56.64.138 (talk) 14:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Discussion
edit- If somebody could work on an extensive history section (to go in between the main description and discography), that would really help. Also, albums by herself and ones by The Moldy Peaches (as well as the Peaches' page itself) need to be created or need some work. I might do these myself, but again, some help would be appreciated. -Nathew
- I'm 99% sure Panda is her second child, unless Ange is not actually her own? Based on her lj, that is.
- Ange is her husband. 69.198.146.144 03:55, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- So, um, how do your pronounce Kimya?
It's Kim-yer. Not that it's at all relevant to this page...
Race?
editThe categories at the bottom list her as an African American and a "black rock musician"... I thought Kimya was white? 74.214.106.68 08:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I believe she's mixed race. Wwwhatsup 09:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Probably about 1/4 black, although her brother's middle name 'Junglefoot' makes me wonder if there's some Native American as well. --MartinUK (talk) 13:37, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would like to point out that Native American's have nothing to do with jungles. 24.81.11.152 (talk)Tristan —Preceding undated comment was added at 04:29, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- I would like to point out that if one counts all natives of the Americas, including those of the Southern Hemisphere, as one definitely should, that many, many Native Americans most certainly have plenty to do with the jungle, most notably the Amazon. However, this fact should not detract from the obvious stupidity contained within the original comment to which Tristan responded.Brakoholic (talk) 17:24, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

- I would like to point out to everyone that Kimiya is a popular female Persian name. The word is in fact where the Arabic word ‘alchemy’ is derived from. (link). So she’s probably half Iranian.Nightryder84 (talk) 07:32, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Fabio
editI've resisted the temptation to revert the change from 'friend' to 'cousin' on the basis that iMDB is not a legit source for wikipedia. However I'd like to see a better source if we can come up with one. Wwwhatsup 09:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- An anonymous editor called this 'a joke' today. That was promptly removed by another anon editor. I've gone ahead and removed the sentence: Chris Barron of the '90s band Spin Doctors co-wrote and sang a Moldy Peaches song, and her cousin Fabrizio Moretti[1] Neither are Kimya-specific but refer more to the Moldy Peaches anyway. Wwwhatsup (talk) 10:57, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I heard she was part Brazilian, so her being related to Fabrizio Moretti is not that farfetched (he's half Brazilian) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.4.41.3 (talk) 21:52, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Third Eye Blind
editI've removed the phrase She appears in the band's music video for the song "Blinded". According to Third Eye Blind no videos was made for the song - perhaps it means just by the label? Wwwhatsup (talk) 10:23, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Birthplace
editAnyone know where she was born and grew up? The article only mentions NY as a sometimes residence. --82.194.62.227 (talk) 19:02, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
State of the article
editAfter nursing this article for a bit a year or so ago and then leaving it alone I'm disappointed to see that it's probably worse off now than it was then. The pic's gone, the career info is almost non-existent. And the CDR pre-release version of Alphabutt is given more importance than the released version. Come on people! Wwwhatsup (talk) 22:56, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've moved and edited Alphabutt - could someone check track listings / release date etc? Also added an infobox. Wwwhatsup (talk) 23:24, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Pronoun consistency
editKimya Dawson uses she/her pronouns as well as they/them pronouns. In other Wikipedia articles I have noticed that it is customary for the first instance of the subject's preferred pronoun to have an alphabetical note saying some variant of: "[subject] uses both she/her and they/them pronouns and switches between them. This article uses they/them pronouns for consistency." (taken from Kehlani's page. Also appears for Demi Lovato, Trisha Paytas, Bethany C. Meyers, Halsey, and Lil Uzi Vert among others.)
Kimya's article is inconsistent with the pronoun choice, but does use they/them pronouns more than it uses she/her pronouns. It would improve the readability if one set of pronouns is used consistently and a note is added at the pronoun's first use to note the choice. Boplover (talk) 19:58, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
Label that wronged her
editSo she had to sign an NDA to not disclose which label it was, but there is one of her labels that she was wronged by, just trying to see what shady things happened and what label it might have been. 2604:3D09:7388:1800:4CBB:6F0:4E6F:EB81 (talk) 23:05, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
