Still a student?
editis Kiran still a Columbia student or not? sources are conflictual... cjs 14:52, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- The article does not say that she is. -Splash - tk 20:20, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Does she hold an Indian passport ? I do not think her nationality is Indian, her nationality should be "United States". Her ethnicity is Indian.
Translations
editThe translations of her books belong in the books' articles, not here. Moreover, they should be handled by interlanguage links in those articles where they exist. There are hundreds of possible languages, and there is no need to list all, nor indeed very many, of them. There are other-language Wikipedias for that purpose. -Splash - tk 16:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Photo
editThe photo is identified as being "mid-2000s". However, it's identical to the photo on the back cover of the first American edition of "Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard" (published by Atlantic Monthly Press in 1998). I think that means it must be older than mid-2000s.
Fair use rationale for Image:Kiran Desai.jpg
editImage:Kiran Desai.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Issue of similarities
editI removed the following passage from the "Awards and recognition" section of the article, as it clearly did not belong there.
If someone has watched the movie 'Guide' starring Dev Anand, Waheeda Rahman, then will surely find many similarities between the movie and the book - Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard. The hidden plot is same which is a loser becomes a saint. The ending of the book is also abrupt. I wonder how the critics have not pointed out this fact.
This is personal speculation. It's even written in the first person. Does anyone feel like finding some substantiation for this?
