Change of Article name.

edit

I think this Article should be renamed "Kirn, Dunoon", as Kirn is now a contiguous part of Dunoon. (Springchickensoup (talk) 11:07, 27 November 2016 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Springchickensoup (talkcontribs) 11:05, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Kirn Primary School

edit

Kirn primary school redirects to this page but the content has been lost. Kirn Primary School needs it's own article, with the content reinstated.LITTLE LUGS (talk) 16:10, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@LITTLE LUGS:, the Kirn Primary School article was merged to the village article on Sept. 27, 2017 by Klbrain as a belated action from an "unopposed 2015 merge proposal". I must confess that I don't see that merger proposed at the talk page of the former article or in the Proposed Merge archives but it does not seem to have been a controversial action. The state of the article immediately prior to the merger was not great. The only referenced information was about the head teacher and a failed proposed merger of three village schools. If you think that it is notable enough for its own article, then you can use that link to find the most recent full text and start building a new article. You will want to read this link and the standards it links to see what "notable enough" is generally accepted to mean in Wikipedia terms, though. "Notability" has a slightly different meaning on Wikipedia than it does in normal English usage. I hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:51, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
(talk) The following has been lost recently, was supposedly being moved to a new article? However, no new article has appeared using "Kirn Primary School" titlle?
Kirn Primary School is located in Kirn which is a small village on the outskirts of Dunoon, Scotland. Kirn Primary School has approximately 200 pupils. It is a feeder primary for Dunoon Grammar School. It is part of Argyll and Bute Council.[3] The new buildings are due for completion in Autumn 2017.[4]

1.1 History Kirn primary was built in 1881. Kirn Primary School was an evacuation centre in World War II. On 29 September 1939, 66 evacuee children were enrolled in Kirn Primary School. Such was the demand for a safe haven that the numbers rose so high that the teachers and pupils had to work shifts because the building was unable to house the sheer number of pupils. From 1961 to 1992 there was a large US Navy base at the Holy Loch which meant that there were a lot of American pupils in the school. At its peak the school had over 500 pupils on its roll and had additional buildings.

1.2 Early years department The Early years department' has four classes: Pre 5 morning class and an afternoon class, P1a and P1b. The Pre 5 unit was renovated in 2008 and has its own kitchen and garden. The Infants department is made up of P2, P3 and P4 and is based in the far wing of the school. Upper department: Primary 5, 6 and 7 do not stay in one class but move around different classes. Each subject has its own classroom. Each class has a pastoral teacher who is their main point of contact. 1.3 Buildings Kirn primary school was commissioned in 1881 and opened in 1882. In 1955 more classrooms were added. There are currently ten classrooms, six pupil toilets and two disabled toilets. It also has a library, a bike shed, a store room, an office, a lunch hall and a gym hall. The office door used to be the boys entrance and the girls entrance used to be at the front of the school. The grounds have a garden which is used for plants and has seating areas.

1.4 Future There were plans to merge Kirn and two other local schools together.[5][6] The schools are Kirn Primary, Dunoon Primary and St Muns RC Primary.[5] However the plans were shelved in 2013 after consultation.[7] Argyll and Bute Council received funding in March 2015 to build a new school to replace the 1950s building, construction was due to begin in January 2016 with the pupils being decanted to nearby Dunoon Grammar School. The old school was demolished in 2016.[8] The school is currently being rebuilt to modern standards.[9][10]

For some context here, the general principle, from WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES is that Most elementary (primary) and middle schools that don't source a clear claim to notability usually get merged or redirected to the school district authority that operates them (generally North America) or the lowest level locality (elsewhere or where there is no governing body). So, when the merge was proposed, and the case was clear from WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, I proceeded with the merge. I'm relaxed about whether others think that there is now a case to be made for a split, but many of the points made above (for example, about buildings) are not encyclopaedic, and others (like 'future') don't establish independent notability.
