Unlaaye
editRegarding the following:
- "Kismaayo was largely built by Ibraahim Unlaaye, the wealthiest man in Somalia prior to the civil war."
References to documentation regarding this individual would be helpful. Some further clarification is needed, as well; a previous paragraph states that the city was founded by Bantus, so I am guessing that Unlaaye's efforts to build the city refer to development in more recent times. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:11, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Hello there.
Ibraahim Uunlaaye, though one of the wealthiest men before the war in the country, did not entirely built the city himself. Sure after the independence, particularly sometime between '70s-'80s, he invested heavily in some buildings. He also built several mosques. He also made an equal physical and structural investments in Mogadishu as well. He owned famous cinemas in the capital.
We were close neighbours to his older brother and his family in Mogadishu, and I know a little detail about the man. You are right, the original and indigenous people that inhabited the city were the Bajuni people (part Bantu, part Arab), as attested by the very name of the city, Kismaayo. It is a Bajuni (Swahili) word.
The person who put Uunlaaye name there has had more than the buildings he built in that city in mind. You see, several clans are claiming to "own" that strategic city now, resulting several inter-tribal wars recently. All of those clans has nothing to do with the city, never were the natives of it. Uunlaaye belongs one major competing clan, thus the person who put his name there was likewise putting his clan's "ownership" part. It is a sick, twisted Soomaali clanish mentality, you may not understand. :-) And I'm sure it will be removed sooner by a member of other "competing" clan. You watch. They even have their inter-tribal cyber civil war.
Oh, I forgot to sign my name. Soomaali Dec. 19, 2005
Seemingly you were right. The name is gone. Phelixxx 13:18, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
during the civil war, kismaayo was predominantly disputed by members of the daarood clan such as majeerteen, mareexaan and ogaadeen. before the civil war, no particular clan could lay claim to it as was any other major somali city such as muqdisho. i am sure once peace returns,it will be a city for all somalis to live in,invest and enjoy. the idea that clans can own cities is a new phenomenon which was a result of the civil war and other clan egos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.41.44.95 (talk) 16:04, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

The population of Kismayo City is estimated to be around 75,000 and most of the city’s inhabitants belong to various sub clans of the Marehan. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.254.9.224 (talk) 16:28, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Readdition of Jubaland flag with edit summary 'formatting'
editThis kind of edit. Middayexpress, for Kismayu, with the edit summary 'formatting' but actually consisting of adding the Jubaland flag, to bolster that entity's profile, is not the way we edit Wikipedia. I must kindly ask you not to game the encyclopedia/wikilawyer in this fashion. Cease misrepresenting Somali issues, please. I've asked you many times - I've run an RfC - there are only so many other dispute resolution forums to go to. Regards Buckshot06 (talk) 11:03, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- This is the same that is done for New York City, as well as other cities in the United States: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, etc. However, unlike US cities, Somali cities don't possess a set infobox type. Kismayo is also within the Jubbland adminstration. AcidSnow (talk) 15:45, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- Indeed. It's standard infobox formatting, and Jubaland is an autonomous region of Somalia. Middayexpress (talk) 15:56, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

I would like to submit a edit request because o would like to add to the history section, it misses out on a lot of events such as the Warsangali conquest of Kismayo and the Wamo kingdoms. It also has some minor errors that I would like to fix Kismayo was never a city state it doesn’t even describe what kismayo traded it just talks about Somali and in my perspective it should be more specific. Any who thanks for reviewing my request.P.S this is my first time submitting a request so please inform me if their are any errors. Baxule (talk) 22:28, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:50, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

editUnder transportation, "A paved 528 km freeway links the capital Mogadishu with Kismayo." I would recommend that "This route out of the city is not open to civilians as African Union peacekeepers and Somali Army hold it for security purposes." is added. I was in Kismayo through July and August 2021, and lone civilians couldn't take this route out of the city; you had to take security (in my case SNA.) is a photograph of an AU base along this road, around -0.304, 42.5722 degrees good enough to source this fact? - Norkeys (talk) 03:17, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
