Population
editI think there needs to be a source for the assertion that thhere are 300,000 Kodava in Mysore and Bangalore. It seems very high, compared with the population in Kodagu. Imc 16:20, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Although the Kodavas originated in Kodagu, most of them have today migrated to the cities. The Kannada and the Malayalam speakers presently outnumber them in Coorg. More than 45000 Kodavas live in B.lore today as per Kodava Samaj records. However the total Kodava population worldwide is not more than 2 lakhs, so the 300000 figure is an outright exaggeration. Claims are doing the rounds that the Kodava population is on the decline. Hence this might explain why the population of Kodagu remains more or less at around 500,000 the Kodava population decreases while the population of those entering Kodagu from outside increases. The Kodava or The Kodavas
editReferring to the very first line of the article. Shouldn't it be "The Kodavas?" Thanking You, AltruismT a l k - Contribs. 06:08, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes, it must be corrected. Thank you. ThePassionateEditor (talk) 13:10, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Kodava flag?
editThe book Encyclopedia of the Stateless Nations: D-K by James Minahanshows a "Kodava flag" on page 997[1]. Can anyone obtain a non-copyright image of that flag from somewhere? MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:11, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Substantial coypedit 23 August 2011
editThis article had some pretty glaring copyediting issues, as well as some easily-correctible content issues, so I've done a basic stab. The article had something like 30 unnecessarily bolded words, so I auto-removed those. The italicising was likewise often improper, so rather than do it manually I de-italicised 80-some words, and will re-italicise where needed. There was also substantial capitalisation of common nouns; I got some of those but need to hunt down the rest.
Content wise, the "Puranas" section was duplicated nearly word for word just a section above, so I removed that but retained the footnote. The placement of "Notables" in the lede was also distracting, so I removed those since we have both a section and an entire separate article for them. I removed some POV words like "heroes" and non-WP phrasings like "we can see."
Content-wise I have several major concerns, particualarly in the "Modern era" section. There's some really obvious thou-dost-protest-too-much of "But really, it's not true at all what they say about Kodavas", so presumably OR and attempts to undermine cited text. A similar issue arose in "Firearms" where the reference explicitly says that Kodavas were allowed to carry arms since they supported the British in 1857, but another editor removed my text (leaving footnotes in place) and said it was because the Kodava were "peaceful" which appears to be a very POV whitewashing. The issues are very similar in "Modern era" where it appears there's POV-pushing of a narrative that evades criticism of the Kodava for working with colonial powers. This must be elimiated and guarded against, as WP is not a place to rewrite history to assuage hurt feelings or "glorify" a given caste.
So that's where we're at, just wanted to explain at length what I changed. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:14, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Kodava's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

1857
editOnly one found source, I. M. Muthanna a secondary source, claims that Kodagu and the Kodavas supported the British by helping suppress it during the Revolt of 1857. There was no known case (due to absence of other sources) of the revolt, or its suppression, either in and around Kodagu or involving the Kodavas, in 1857. I. M. Muthanna himself doesn't quote any reference and so must have mistaken it with other disturbances that Kodava officials and soldiers helped suppress under the British during the Raj. :ನಿತಿನ್ (talk) 08:01, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
