edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: No consensus. There is neither a strong consensus to move nor a strong consensus to keep the current title. WP:CONCISE applies here. (non-admin closure) Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:26, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
Kurdistan Region → Kurdistan Region of Iraq – This name is also used more frequently in the media, for example in The Washington Post:[1], also the Danish Immigration Service uses this name:[2], also the Iraq Energy Institute uses this name:[3], even the European Parliament uses this name:[4]. 124.213.17.209 (talk) 20:38, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - Kurdistan Region has over one million Google Search hits, while the number is 344.000 for Kurdistan Region of Iraq so the former is definitely more commonly used. Also per WP:NAMINGCRITERIA. --Ahmedo Semsurî (talk) 20:50, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support per WP:ASTONISH, clearly needs a complete title. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:44, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- Probably support, although there'd be an argument for Kurdistan Region (Iraq) as well. There are, of course, other regions of Kurdistan. Q·L·1968 ☿ 15:27, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
- Support The current name is unclear, also the shortcut is KRI which means Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Neutrale Person (talk) 22:49, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose - I don't really understand the rationale for this RM. The nom says the name is used frequently in the media, but "Kurdistan Region of Iraq" is a description to aid readers of those media articles in knowing what the subject is. It is not the actual name of the entity. This is similar to how many international media outlets say things like "the US state of Nevada"[5][6] but we obviously don't title our article that, it's just Nevada. As for the the name being unclear, I don't see any other entities called the Kurdistan Region - the Turkish and Syrian areas have other names. And, as Ahmedo says, the simple phrase "Kurdistan Region" is the WP:COMMONNAME for the entity. — Amakuru (talk) 21:20, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Independent country now?
editRecent edits by user @Modazadi5: seem to have made Kurdistan an independent country, established a central bank and currency, moved the capital, etc. I for one wasn't aware of these developments, nor are there reliable sources supporting any of that. I propose to revert all these edits back to the pre-Feb 6 state, but wanted to discuss first before making such a wholesale reversion. Views? --DoubleGrazing (talk) 08:33, 7 February 2021 (UTC)

Climate - missing Köppen classification
editIn the climate section, the Mediterranean influence on the climate (dry summers) is not directly mentioned (though it is on the page for Erbil, whose climate data table is used here), and the Köppen classification (which I believe is BShCsa typically, and a matter of routine calculation) is not given at all, although this may be because this is the Kurdistan Region page, and such a wide area cannot have a homogenic climate. Outdated data
editAll the data on the economy, HDI and Gini factors seem to be from 2015 and 2014. Is there a more modern source on the region's economy? Silveratractic (talk) 18:34, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Climate classification
editThe article cannot classify the region as semi arid here, but as hot summer Mediterranean in the article Iraqi Kurdistan. דולב חולב (talk) 05:16, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

- @דולב חולב I do not find the mess of ungrammatical and unformatted text that you added an improvement. I also think that, especially as the current wording was already sourced, you should have at least sourced your statement. Uness232 (talk) 05:43, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

Kurdistan Region is officially bilingual
editAn account named “Khassanu” has recently made an edit where they removed Arabic from the list of official languages and added a new list titled “official correspondence languages” and added as the source “constitution article 7ii”. Please be advised that what they sourced is not the regional constitution in effect today. What they sourced is a draft constitution that never came into effect because it was never ratified by the regional parliament, rather, a different constitution that does not include what they mentioned (about correspondence languages) was ratified by the regional parliament in 2009 which is the official constitution of KRI today. In that ratified constitution in effect today (in article 14) it clearly and unambiguously states that Kurdish and Arabic are the two official languages of the Kurdistan Region and no mention of “official correspondence languages” is made. You can see for yourself here -https://kurdistantribune.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Kurdistan-Draft-Constitution-2009.doc Montblamc1 (talk) 19:22, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
Kurmanji as official language?
editWhere does it state that Kurmanji is official? Tried to look up, but couldn't find. @Khassanu: @Semsûrî:. Beshogur (talk) 11:47, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- The constitution only ascertains "Kurdish" as the official language which for Duhok area means Kurmanji. If I remember correctly, only Sorani is used in official documents of the region. Semsûrî (talk) 13:31, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Is there a proof Kurmanji (Arabic or Latin) is used there?
- Kurdistan Region Presidency has both, but Kurdistan Regional Government website hasn't. Beshogur (talk) 14:53, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sheyholislami writes about it and it is mentioned at Sorani#1990s (Iraq section). With regards to script, its Kurdo-Arabic alphabet for the whole region and not Latin. You can find official sites using the Latin script (this is actually Sorani) but the region uses the Kurdo-Arabic script in official documents. Semsûrî (talk) 15:20, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
