'Kachhi language', mainly spoken in Kachh region of western India, adjoining to Pakistan and in Mumbai has growing rapidly in last 20 years. Many books and a few magazines are being published regularly.

Suggesion to the editor : If title is to be improved or corrected , what should be done ? e.g. your title 'Kutchi' language is not proper. It should be changed to Kachhi and/or Kachchhi language so that standardisation is carried on.

Diet

edit

The diet section should be moved to another article since this article is about the Kutchi language. Beno1000 11:21, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kachchi-Swahili

edit

I think there needs to be a separate section regarding the dialect or creole of Kachichi-Swahili, a mixture of KAchichi and Kiswahili, spoken in Kenya and Tanzania.

Dubious - script, distribution

edit

I removed some parts that seemed wrong or too weakly referenced, and marked some others as "dubious".

In particular, there's the question of script - with which script is this language written? This article makes some confusing claims about "modified Gujarati", and about Devanagari and Urdu. Ethnologue only mentions Devanagari. One of the Kutchi websites linked at the bottom appears to be written mostly in Devanagari. --Dhoj Besra (talk) 21:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why, in the infobox was this added "કચ્છી / ڪڇي/ کچھی" Kutchi, Urdu (Google translates to "Turtle"?), and Arabic which Google does not translate. Thanks Jim1138 (talk) 18:42, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

The spelling currently used in the article seems to be the most popular in scholarly sources, going by the Google Books search results:

'Kutchhi' is what is recognized by University of Mumbai, India. There is a engineering college which has been given minority status by government of India to accept 'Kutchhi' students under minority quota. Link to that college website and it's Wikipedia link:

Now, if you provide permission Utcursch and Jim1138, can I make the edit to replace the article page by Kutchhi ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:4100:8E07:9C5D:BE51:CEBA:C620 (talk) 22:16, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

So, a college uses "Kutchhi" in its name. How is that relevant to the argument that the most common spelling is "Kutchi"? That's like arguing "The article Mumbai should use the spelling Bombay because Indian Institute of Technology Bombay uses that spelling in its name".
If you're trying to claim that the government uses the spelling "Kutchhi", here is a link from the Government of India website that uses the spelling "Kutchi". utcursch | talk 22:23, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

I got your point. But now, in the article the spelling used through out is Kachhi which is neither of the ones that we are talking about. I suggest that we change it to Kutchi based on your link above. If it is a PM of the country that has this article and Tweet on the official government website, then that should be the right way to spell it. Please let me know if you will make the changes, or if I can go ahead and do it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:4100:8E07:9C5D:BE51:CEBA:C620 (talk) 22:51, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Another article from Times of India, where the name is written as 'Kutchi'. This article titled 'Kutchi language gets script' mentions that a graphologist got a copyright for the script from the Copyright Office, New Delhi. http://www.timesnow.tv/Kutchi-language-gets-script/articleshow/4323808.cms — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:4100:8E07:9C5D:BE51:CEBA:C620 (talk) 23:17, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Good point. The spelling should be consistent throughout -- I've updated the article. utcursch | talk 23:19, 11 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please include gujarati script at the introduction line as normally Kachchhi is written in Gujarati script. I hope this request will be accepted and updated soon. I am a Kachhi and my first language is Gujarati besides Kachchhi. Make it as follows:

Kachhi (also spelt Cutchi, Kutchhi or Kachchhi)(Gujarati:કચ્છી)(Urdu:کچھی) is an Indo-Aryan Language

I will be more than happy to see that.

Great work really.
