About the gender of Líf and Lífþrasir
editIs it correct that Líf is the female and Lífþrasir the male? Other sources of information on the web seem to contradict this. 77.248.230.207 (talk) 05:19, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like a mix up. I've since fixed it. :bloodofox: (talk) 06:11, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- It is certaintly not as clear as some assume. In the fjólsvinnsmál Agilaz Svipdagr asks Fjolsvith what the maidservants of Menglöd is called. She has nine maidservants, the first of whom are called Hlif and the next Hliftrasa. Maybe it is a pun, maybe intentionally put to provoke the thought that in the next world humanity will transgender. More conservatively put, Hliftrasr seems like a masculine ending, and Hliftrasa a feminine one. Xact (talk) 05:16, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
