Colonial period

edit

IS there really no stories/incidents during this period? Or after 10th century CE. ? Bladesmulti (talk) 03:51, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind because i found one link [1], although I can't decide at this moment, that where it should be added, I agree source isn't reliable, but there are reliable sources for these information. Bladesmulti (talk) 10:23, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Possible alternative interpretations of Section 377

edit

"Unnatural offences.--Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with 1*[imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine."

"Explanation.-Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offence described in this section."

In other words, since they never bothered to define "unnatural", this could mean anything under the sun, and even the punishment could be anything. (Imprisonment for 0 minutes to 10 years, or life, and a fine of ₹0.01 up to infinity.) 68.37.254.48 (talk) 20:53, 17 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Article is very narrow goes extremely off-topic.

edit

Given the long and respectable history of LGBT community in India, this article very narrow and lack enough literal information from sources other than The Kamasutra like The Nardasmriti and Sushruta Samhita. No mention of Manusmriti laws for homosexuality. There is a severe lack of paintings and images of LGBT people from medieval India. No detailed mention of Fatawa Alamgiri during the Mughal rule. Article seems to be an Original research which is against WP:NOR.

Article doesn’t adhere to its title. It goes on to give a complete list of recent developments, crimes and discrimination for LGBT community in India. This is an article for LGBT History, not a general article on LGBT rights in India. Although, it can be argued that this is important history for LGBT community but topics like Supreme Court Judgements and petitions, books and LGBT movies more accurately comes under LGBT rights in India.

Extensive editing is required to correct this, but I first wanted to see if everyone agrees with me. Kaamavats (talk) 22:42, 26 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I agree that more information regarding the history during the ancient and medieval periods would be helpful and make the page more complete. More about the history and developments themselves would also be helpful. 23impartial (talk) 13:35, 30 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay. I will soon be starting a draft edit which will include ancient, medieval history as well. Hope everybody contributes to it. Kaamavats (talk) 09:55, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Prose tag

edit

There's currently a Prose tag on the page due to the article having certain information listed instead of in prose form. However, the information that is currently in list form is a timeline of events beginning from early modern period up until 2023. I think it's reasonable to organize such information in a list instead of prose form, as it's expected to see a history timeline in a bulleted list. Thus I think the tag could be removed. Happy to discuss and reach consensus. 23impartial (talk) 14:14, 30 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

If nobody objects, I will go ahead and remove the tag. 23impartial (talk) 00:52, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
This wikipedia is a prose wikipedia. We don't use such pointers for a content like this. The article is supposed to summarize the "LGBT history in India". Summarizing is done in prose, not pointers — DaxServer (t·m·e·c) 05:54, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the explanation. I will do what I can to change the list to prose. 23impartial (talk) 12:24, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have changed the bulleted lists to regular paragraphs. Do you have any other suggested edits? If not, I think the tag can be removed. 23impartial (talk) 02:35, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you have no objections, I'll remove the tag. 23impartial (talk) 00:57, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
