Photo
editI've uploaded a photo I've taken from one of Yidyam (Lake Eacham's) viwing platforms .. although there are a number of photo's of the whole lake taken from the air showing the whole of the crater from the air .. for which copyright approvals may/will need to be obtained! Should anyone have a better photo .. please substitute! Bruceanthro 23:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Name
editI'll wait a couple of days .. but wished to raise the idea and see if there would be any objection to including the original Ngadjon-jii name for this lake in brackets as follows: Lake Eacham (Yidyam)? If there is no objectin, no knowing how else to do it, I would cut and paste the whole of this article onto a new page/article entitled Lake Eacham (Yidyam) .. and redirect all Lake Eacham inquiries/searches to that page? Shifted from 'Lake Eacham'
editThe Queensland Place names register/list identified Lake "Eacham" as receiving its formal name from the original Aboriginal name .. and the linguist who specialised in the local Aboriginal languages of the area, Robert (Bob) Dixon, has both recorded the original Ngadjon/Yidinji name for this crater lake .. and has given its more phonetically correct spelling as Yidyam.
Noting that any search for Lake Eacham will redirect to this page, and the content remains largely the same .. I hope there is no objection to this shift towards greater accuracy .. paticularly given the significance of Yidyam in the more anthropological/linguistic/cultural heritage world as having been listed on Australia's national estate as 'the worlds oldest dated oral history' .. (I will later seek to obtain references and include this detail in thei article) ... Cheers Bruceanthro 06:12, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Greetings, I'm a little unsure about the move from Lake Eacham to Yidyam. Eacham Shire is named after the lake. The Queensland Government Property, titles & valuations page lists the lake has "Lake Eacham", as does the QLD Government EPA page and the Atherton Tablelands Tourism Guide. While I believe it is important to include its original name, I think the article should reflect it's common name instead. Fosnez (talk) 02:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

- I've tweaked the coordinates a bit, but they seem to be basically correct. If you think there is an error, you'll need to give a clear explanation of what you think is wrong. Deor (talk) 12:12, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
