Move to "Economy of Latin America"

edit

I am wondering if this should be moved to "Economy of Latin America" because "Economy of ..." seems to be the naming convention used in other articles such as Economy of South America, Economy of North America, Economy of Asia, Economy of Africa, Economy of Europe, etc. This style of naming even extends to the country and city level such as Economy of China and Economy of Paris, etc. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:11, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am concerned that this article is a redundant fork. We already have Economy of North America and Economy of South America, which this article overlaps. Consequently we are supposed to split and merge this article into the two continental articles. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:33, 24 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
The manmade "continent(s)" term overlap Latin America and the Caribbean. Which is from Mexico / the Bahamas and Cuba southward. CaribDigita (talk) 04:49, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Recentism, etc.

edit

The article was added to the mainspace without passing through WP:AFC. The first part of the article up to Latin American economy#Main economies seems pretty good. However, I have some concerns about the subsequent sections with respect to WP:RECENTISM and WP:CRYSTAL. Although there are quite a number of sources cited, those sections read more like a news article/economic forecast (at least to me) than an encyclopedic summary of the individual economies of each county. Perhaps a hatnote should be added to sections of each country's stand alone article and only a general overview be included here. The more specific details seem more appropriate to me in the stand alone article about each country than they do here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:18, 21 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Cheyenne's Peer Review

edit

This article is so well done! The level of detail is very good. Since there is a considerably large number of countries, the organization of breaking most sections up by country helps alot with readability. I also appreciate the timeline. Each section provides new information without repetition, which is great. Additionally, the tone is strong and there is no detectable bias. There are a few places that could use citations (message me if you want to know exactly where- I don't want to take up a ton of space with your existing writing!) The pictures are also great to provide some extra details. Overall, an amazing example of a Wikipedia article!04:40, 24 March 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ernst.ch (talkcontribs)

@Ernst.ch: Articles can be edited by anyone so if you have specific suggestions on where citations may be needed, then feel free to (1) be bold and add them to the article yourself or (2) post that information here on the article's talk page so that other editors can add them discuss and add them. As for your comment about the article being an amazing example of a Wikipedia article, I understand your desire to commend the work of one of your classmates, but, as I pointed out above, I feel there are some issues which need to be addressed. The closest things we have to examples amazing articles on Wikipedia are featured articles, but even those can probably be improved in one way or another; I think this one has quite a ways to go before reaching FA level. Finally, since you yourself are still quite new to editing, please take a look at WP:TPG. Talk pages are places where editors can exchange thoughts on ways to help improve articles, so it helps others follow along if you know how to properly format and sign your posts. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:58, 24 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Expansion of article

edit

I have expanded the article substantially to add information about the economic history of Latin America, citing major sources. The article can be expanded even further and I hope that the Wiki community pursues that. The section on individual countries needs expansion of information and a broader range of sources. I do think the article should be upgraded from its current C status. I'm glad that this article was created and am encouraged that the pageview count has increased substantially.Amuseclio (talk) 16:13, 4 August 2017 (UTC)AmuseclioReply

Citation style

edit

I am a professional historian and in this article I have used standard academic citations in-line. Where I have cited a particular work frequently, I have shortened the citation to author, title, page number. I have added a number of the specialized works to the Further reading section. This academic citation format might not be conducive to the very short Wiki style of citation. This may be why there was a problem with one or more subsequent editors trying to reformat them. My apologies and thanks for their attempting to improve this article.Amuseclio (talk) 23:12, 25 November 2017 (UTC)AmuseclioReply
