Temporary Page
editI have started a temporary page here: Talk:Lindsey Jacobellis/Temp. Please use it for edits until the Copyright Violation has been settled.--Josilot 16:33, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- The temp page and the copyvio in the edit history have been deleted. Thank you for using a temp page, Josilot. User:69.248.149.74 ignoring the instructions on the copyvio notice is not appreciated. -- PFHLai 11:45, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- This is a wiki. I understand the copyright problems, but leaving a copyright notice on the page that was the top story of the day didn't benefit anyone. The copyright dispute can still be resolved and replace the current text if necessary. In the meantime, we have a well-written article. --Quintin3265 15:52, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- It's much easier for admins to do the clean up work with the well-written article on the temp page. Contributions to the article is very, very well appreciated. Ignoring the instructions on the copyvio notice and removing the notice is NOT. Editing over the notice means the offending copyvio, which admins are supposed to remove, stays in the edit history. The notice is also a tag to help admins identify problem articles. Without the tag, it's hard to locate the problems. Please don't remove them. Co-operation will be very much appreciated. Please help us help you and everyone keep the wiki free of copyright violations. Many thanks. -- PFHLai 20:49, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism?
editAdding a "see also" link to Leon Lett is not vandalism. Both had famous incidents where "showing off" during a sports competition cost them dearly.
I'd like to hear what others have to say; if there isn't any objection, I'd like to restore this.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mr. Vernon (talk • contribs) .
- I deleted it because Lindsey Jacobellis has nothing in common with Leon Lett except for the fact that they've both been caught showing off in competition. If there were a compelling reason to link the two, I would restore it myself. But so far I am not convinced that a link to Leon Lett should be on this page.--Josilot 01:51, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- I am satisfied with PRRfan's additions. He gave a good reason to add the link.--Josilot 02:52, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Nevertheless it should not be labeled as "vandalism". As per Wiki's vandalism policy. It is misleading to those who edit in the future--† Ðy§ep§ion † Speak your mind 01:30, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Let me explain myself in more detail. At the time that that link was added, there was no reason to link Lindsey Jacobellis to Leon Lett other than to disparage her. There was no connection between the two, other than like you said, she had been compared to him in the press. This violates the first sentence on Wikipedia:Vandalism: Vandalism is any addition, deletion, or change to content made in a deliberate attempt to reduce the quality of the encyclopedia. The edit I reverted was added to draw a connection between two athletes who had nothing in common, which is a deliberate attempt to reduce the quality of the encyclopedia. It was akin to adding a link to O. J. Simpson on Neil Entwistle's page. They have nothing in common, and there is no reason to add this link other than to disparage the subject. And why stop at linking to Lett? Why not put a picture of him on this article? Is that taking it too far?
- Since then, a paragraph has been added to the article that draws a connection between the two athletes through the comparison of the two in the media. This improves the quality of the article. Having a link to an outside article that has no relation to the article is a reduction in quality.
- I regret that my reversion has caused this controversy. In the future I will think twice about labeling a reversion like this vandalism.--Josilot 01:50, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Glad to see this is resolved. I would add, however, that one good reason for adding the link is that Jacobellis is now best known for her mistake. Had she not made the mistake, she would have won the gold and few would have remembered her after a few days. Instead, she was on the front page of every newspaper in the country, and will be mentioned every time someone loses by showing off in the future. --Quintin3265 17:39, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
