Notability

edit

The notability of Lisa Kelly has been questioned and a discussion about deletion of this article ended in no consensus. I want to contribute to that discussion by telling you that Ice Road Truckers has been aired twice on Swedish TV channels, but only those episodes where Lisa Kelly is participating. This decision from Swedish TV channels is comparable to the decision to air a number of episodes of the Australian series Home and away, but only the episodes where Isabel Lucas participated were aired. Obviously the Swedish TV channels understand the value of having a beautiful young woman in the TV shows they air. Personally I share that view. I have no interest in watching the seasons of Ice road truckers where Lisa Kelly is not participating, and I have no interest in the 25 years of the Home and away series when Isabel Lucas did not participate. In my view, and in the views of Swedish TV channels, Lisa Kelly is a big part of the reason why the viewers watch IRT and its follow ups in India and South America. If you check out how many video clips about Lisa Kelly you can find on youtube compared to the video clips about other Ice road truckers you can get another measure of how popular Lisa Kelly is, compared to other Ice road truckers.Roger491127 (talk) 17:58, 17 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I searched google for "Lisa Kelly". From the first page of 11 links 9 are about the ice road trucker, 2 are about the Celtic woman. That says something about the notability of the two women. Roger491127 (talk) 03:21, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Roger, do "Swedish TV channels" realize that this is a TRUCK show not a beauty contest? Don't you have enough blondes of your own?
Wherever that discussion is, I'm all for deletion. We do NOT make a WP article about every little bimbo that shows up on TV. Besides, it's unfair and discriminating to the LGBT community. Nomad (talk) 05:32, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
I suggest you retract, or edit that comment, Leo711/Nomad, which is offensive and contravenes Wikipedia's BLP policies. Apart from her looks, Kelly has managed to hold an extremely difficult and dangerous job in a male dominated profession. She gets attention for a number of reasons. She meets WP's notability criteria therefore the article is perfectly justified. Sionk (talk) 09:10, 31 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

And you saying she did good is a scientific fact? Or are you driven by her good looks rather than objectivity? Nomad (talk) 00:52, 13 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The most famous of the ice road truckers is no doubt Lisa Kelly. The second most famous is probably Hugh Rowland, for exactly the opposite reasons. She has a spotless driving record as employed by Carlile, while Rowland was fired after a few years because the company saw him as a reckless and dangerous driver, who had amassed too many traffic violations. In spite of weighing 1/4 of Rowland Lisa can put on heavy snow chains in one minute while it takes Rowland 5 minutes. Rowland is the opposite of cute and nice and the opposite of a reliable and safe driver. After the programs about IRT Deadlist Roads, in Himalaya, Bolivia and Peru it is obvious that Lisa Kelly was the best driver on the most dangerous roads in the world.

According to the site www dot examiner dot com/article/no-maya-no-lisa-no-women-as-ice-road-truckers-season-6-debuts season 6 of IRT will have no female drivers. Under a photo of Lisa Kelly in London, England there is an article which tells the story about Lisa Kelly and Maya Siebert. Quote: "Although "Reality TV" seems a draw for basic cable and network TV viewers nowadays (though it's not as though no reality TV series ever get canceled), in a job mostly associated with men, it's not hard to believe that the inclusion of two good-looking women in the series had something to do with ratings, reality TV or no reality TV." which confirms my view above, that good looking women has something to do with ratings in reality TV.

"Was sex appeal involved in having them on the show? Whether or not it was the initial decision, it was clearly something used to sell both the show and Sieber and Kelly. ... It's unclear about Sieber, but Kelly doesn't appear to hurting for income, as her Facebook page shows a number of appearances upcoming for her."

Two reader comments below the article: Well you can forget about me watching it, She was the only reason I even watched it, Adios Ice Road Truckers." .. "have to agree....without Lisa it was a bunch of arrogant guys (sans Alex) just boasting and bragging all the time. The show has definitely lost it's edge."

On Lisa Kelly's own web page http://www.thelisakelly.com/about.html we can read: "If you have a specific request regarding appearances, product endorsement, advertising or business offers, please email inquiry at thelisakelly.com and we'll take a look! This email is regarding business only, so all other emails should be filled out below. Starting in November 2010 (you can inquire now), we'll also be glad to talk to you about advertsing your company or product on my site. If you could, be specific about what your interest is with me so I can get a sense of what you'd like--AND (this is important) a proposed timeline. My calender fills quickly. For media/press interview requests, please contact Vicky Kahn, HISTORY PR, vicky.kahn at aetn.com."

On the page http://www.thelisakelly.com/news.html we can read:"Life gets busier and busier for me... But I'll try to post links to events, appearances and interviews here. If you are interested in getting a hold of me, please go to my contact page."

On her facebook page:"Couple weeks away from Truckfest Scotland! I am wondering if I am brave enough to try haggis this year.."

It is obvious from these and other sources that Lisa Kelly has become an internationally famous person, and she can now live off her fame making PR for a number of products, performances at many Truck-related events around the world, and she is even selling photos of herself and autographs. Maya Siebert is doing approximately the same, although on a lesser scale and mainly within USA.

So there is no longer any doubts about her notability, she can even make a living on it, and she is invited to events like flying in a jet airplane with the Blue Angels, U.S. Navy's flight demonstration squadron. http://www.history.com/shows/irt-deadliest-roads/videos/lisa-and-the-blue-angels#lisa-and-the-blue-angels

An older article from 2009 http://celebs.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474977921512

There are videos on youtube which shows her driving a truck in Mexico and interviews in Mexican TV-channels. There are also interviews with her in TV-channels in Argentina, so it is quite obvious that Lisa Kelly is an international celebrity. Roger491127 (talk) 13:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

To Do

edit

There should be no problem expanding this article and update it with information about what Lisa Kelly has been doing for the last two years. I don't have time to do it myself, but there is no problem finding articles and videos on the web, and of course on her own web page. Roger491127 (talk) 13:38, 17 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
