That's a lot of Dicks
editHas anyone noticed that almost every episode has the word "Dick" in the title? Is this article vandalized, or is this legitimate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.119.116.28 (talk) 20:04, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Episode notability
editAll of the episodes of this series fail the notability guidelines for television episodes. The way for these articles to be improved is through the inclusion of real-world information from reliable sources to assert notability. That is unlikely to happen, and these only have certain bad aspects (though all may not apply) like containing overly long or one sentence plot summaries, trivia, and quotes. Per that, they need to be a small part of this list.
If there are no objections, these will be redirected soon. Otherwise, discussion will take place here. Please remember that this is not a vote. If you like the information, that's fine and dandy, but your opinion doesn't really count towards anything. The only opinions that do count are ones that that lean towards the inclusion of real world information. TTN 22:28, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - these articles have recently been being developed and improved upon. Please allow time for them to become better articles. One editors opinion of lack of notability does not make it such. 3rd Rock from the sun won awards all but two of the years it was on, thus making it a successful and notable sitcom. --Maniwar (talk) 02:02, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - Per Maniwar. The hit Emmy-winning show and it's episodes are notable, and the articles for the episodes are being worked on and should grow into worthy articles. -- AvatarMN 05:50, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- The notability of the show has nothing to do with the episodes directly (a children's cartoon can possibly have an episode article, while a major show may not, it's all about the sources). It can only help with the assertion that there are sources. You two have to show that it is possible to build articles with the sources that talk about the episodes in detail. While the pilot has information, it is mainly trivial, and that doesn't even mean the rest can become good (pilots and finales are special cases). With the absence of that assertion, the number of keep votes is irrelevant, and these will have to be redirected.TTN 13:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- you cannot autonomously redirect these pages which may result in an edit war. Again, allow time for the articles to be developed. You will note that sources have been being added to these over the past month and a half. Your one voice cannot overrule a consensus of the editors, and per consensus these articles can remain for development. --Maniwar (talk) 16:22, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Consensus states: "When consensus is referred to in Wikipedia discussion, it always means 'within the framework of established policy and practice'. Even a majority of a limited group of editors will almost never outweigh community consensus on a wider scale, as documented within policies."

- Unless you show that these can meet WP:EPISODE, WP:N, WP:V, and WP:RS, they need to be redirected. "They have been worked on" is not a suitable way to get around those, and the current "improvements" are far from acceptable. TTN 16:25, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep- I checked a few of these episodes out and they have references. They aren't cheap stubs. Clerks. 15:22, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's not about actually having little numbers next to the sentences. The real point is to have information that is important enough to document here that is backed by reliable sources. The information given is not important enough to cover. TTN 16:32, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's interesting how I've notice that you are tagging other articles and that it's your opinion what you think is notable or not. Although I applaud you for your efforts, and I'm sure you do good work, I can't get past that everything to you is your opinion and based on that, again, you want to autonomously delete articles that many have worked on and continue to work on to improve. I have been otherwise occupied lately, so have not had time to work on these, but I'm a bit gun shy as I think you may, autonomously, redirect this article. --Maniwar (talk) 22:17, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

- It's not just his opinion, it's the current consensus on Wikipedia. For these episodes to have their own articles we need real world information to be added to them. If they are nothing put plot, then they will be rightfully redirected. -- Ned Scott 23:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- I don't understand why there are so many keep votes here. The episode list is a mess, and most of the episode links are redlinks anyway. Per WP:EPISODE, the suggested way for expansion is to set up a (good) episode list and than wait until you have enough encyclopdic information to spin off specific parts. Anything other than redirect/remove the links appears unreasonable to me. – sgeureka t•c 03:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Comment: TNN is looking for examples of how these episodes impact the world outside of the 3rd Rock from the Sun universe. This isn't something he's doing on his own, he's just carrying out the results of previous discussion in the TV community. In order for an episode to be notable it has to show how it impacts the world at large, not just talk about the plot of an episode. The episode may or may not be important to the series but the events of an episode can be deomonstrated in this list without a separate article. Also, overly detailed plot descriptions get close to the neigborhood of copyright infringement. Ask yourself, do you have anything to say about the episode that isn't just a retelling of it's plot? Hewinsj 17:09, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Comment: I do hope you're saying the same for other articles, and not just the 3rd Rock episode list... Anyway, I've been updating the episode descriptions, and adding a little more to them. I can put in things besides the plot if you want. Anyway, lots of articles have seperate episode guides, are you going to delete all of them? DerangedOwl (talk) 01:17, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- I cleaned up the tables and filled in the missing summarys too. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 20:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- 'Comment': I have done a thorough job of fixing the Episode Titles and Production Numbers from www.carseywerner.net, and the DVD boxes. Apologies for the number of edits this took, in hindsight probably better to to all of it at once, but I didn't realize how much was wrong at first.
I also added to links to the 'external links' section, but I made a mess of it. If anyone can clean this up for me, I promise to take a look at what you did to fix it, and learn how to do it properly myself.--Digital.Ark (talk) 16:09, 3 June 2008 (UTC)- When doing big editing, I often go to edit, copy the section I want to edit into a text editor (Notepad or similar), and edit it there on my own time. When ready, I can paste it over, do a Show Preview to verify, and if OK, save it. Andyross (talk) 21:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
The closing dance in "Shall We Dick" from Season 5
editAfter seeing episode 17 from Season 5 ("Shall We Dick") for the first time only a couple of weeks ago, I am haunted by the pas de deux between Dick and Mary in the final two minutes. I feel fairly certain this is a direct copy of a scene from either an Astaire or Gene Kelly film. Does anyone recognize this dance and/or the accompanying music? I'd like to include that brief information in the episode description, if I am correct. I'd even consider writing the creative staff if anyone knew how to reach them. --RayBirks (talk) 02:26, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Counting error
editAccording to the season by season tally, there are 20 +26 +26 +24 +22 +20 episodes, which totals 138. However, both this article and the parent article cite 132 episodes being produced. Can anyone explain the six episode discrepancy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.233.85.54 (talk) 01:41, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Id this a typo?
editSeason 5's section lists an episode as "Dick Puts the ID in Cupid", but i suspect it should be "Dick Puts the Id in Cupid", not ID.
I'd edit it myself, but this is the first time i've seen this template and i have no idea how to edit it (or rather, edit the information it displays):
- {{:List of 3rd Rock from the Sun episodes (season 5)}}
It'd be great if someone could give me a hand.
