Any field in the Seasons table that includes an en-dash (—) indicates either that Arsenal did not participate in that competition in that season or that competition did not occur. However, any field left blank is done so because I could not find the data for it. This includes:
FA Cup results for 87/88, 88/89, 89/90, 90/91
Full results for the 91/92 Premier League South season
National League Cup results for 94/95, 95/96, 96/97
Top scorers for 87/88 through 05/06 (I can't find this data anywhere except in archived versions of Arsenal.com, and even that only goes back to 06/07)
I've removed removed the top scorers column in the interest of completeness, as it is effectively impossible to recover. The last remaining FA and League Cup results have since been located. All that's missing is:
Full results for the 91/92 Premier League South season
From the research that I've done, I think that it would be possible to get the top scorer data with relative accuracy back to the 1999/2000 season, as the data exists in the club handbooks (which until the 2009/10 season are available on the Arsenal Collection website. Handbooks are available from an earlier date, but do not cover the womens team in adequate detail with all the stats until 1999/2000. Prior to this, you would be relying on the coverage in the mens programmes until any better sources come to light (which I am hopeful will happen in the coming years).
The next project would be to uncover the league results for 1987-1991. I have partial records for all seasons except 1987-88, and I have seen sources to suggest that the club finished 4th in the league in 1989/90, and 3rd in 1990/91. Cpg12 (talk) 12:49, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I was hoping to put this up for FL status sometime this month, given all the data that's been recovered; all that is really needed is a blurb outlining their short history. As for the missing information:
1987–1990 Regional league statistics
Top scorers, pre 2000
I think we should wait for a solid source outlining the club's statistical history; similar to the men's equivalent Kelly's lineups or a book similar to James et al: Arsenal: The Complete Record, which I too hope could come one day. For the time being I think the table should be left as is: clean, easy to read and well sourced. Once a solid source comes around then we can complete the table. That way we won't be shoehorning a million citations – some potentially unreliable – for a single piece of data. womensfacup.co.uk makes note of a statistical inconsistency within a men's programme for an FA cup tie in the 90s, I think it best we just wait.
