Source checking
editEvery source in this article as of today is the work of Buddhakahika (talk · contribs) and their prior and later socks. That user is known to misrepresent and to deploy synthesis etc, so they'll all need to be checked. It seems to me that they created this page sometime in or before 2009, it was deleted and then legitimately recreated by Kanatonian. Alas, Kanatonian may not have realised the problems. - Sitush (talk) 10:54, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Sourcing and BLP
editCalling someone a Dalit is no different from calling them a Brahmin, an Ahir or whatever. Any such claim needs a reliable source to support it. In the case of living people, the source must show that they self-identify as a Dalit - a newspaper claiming that they are, for example, will not suffice. User:Sitush/Common#Castelists has further information regarding this but the bottom line is: source your claims properly or you'll find your contribution is deleted. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 19:20, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Mahatma Phule and Periyar
editBoth their contributions to the upliftment of Dalits and other oppressed castes was massive but neither were Dalit. Jyotirao Phule belonged to the Mali caste and Periyar E. V. Ramasamy belonged to the Balija caste. Neither of those caste groups are considered Dalit and neither were considered outside of the varna system even back in their days. I am basing all of this on what is written in their respective articles on Wiki plus the definition of Dalit as per its Wiki article. Please discuss before re-introducing or even better get someone from the Talk page of the Dalit article involved who might have more knowledge on this. -- Ujwal.Xankill3r (talk) 15:26, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Add Nagraj Manjule (film director) to the list. Here is a source where he self-identifies himself as a dalit (he belongs to the Wadar community): https://www.hindustantimes.com/entertainment/the-caste-story-is-not-over-yet-nagraj-manjule/story-gnTDce3hY91UibJCA4s2nI.html
Add Neeraj Ghaywan (film director) to this list. Here is a link from his Twitter account where he self identifies himself as a dalit: https://twitter.com/ghaywan/status/948569584231002113?lang=en If the link is not sufficient or inadequate as a source, here is another one: https://www.firstpost.com/entertainment/neeraj-ghaywan-responds-to-vivek-agnihotris-dalit-tweet-twitter-lines-up-in-support-of-the-masaan-director-4286357.html Qriopal (talk) 22:55, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

Add among Dalit academics: 1) Sukhdeo Thorat (Here is a interview of him where he self-identifies as dalit and describes the discrimination he faced in his life: https://scroll.in/article/802174/exclusionary-and-humiliating-campus-culture-led-to-rohith-vemulas-suicide-ex-ugc-chairman)
2) Anand Teltumde (Here is an article which mentions that he was born a Dalit: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-53400138) Qriopal (talk) 23:16, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- Not done: Sukhdeo Thorat and Anand Teltumde have not been covered by Wikipedia, so they are irrelevant and will not be added to the article. A diehard editor (talk | edits) 08:46, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- Anand Teltumbde and Sukhadeo Thorat are both prominent people and have wiki articles. The requester unfortunately misspelled both their names. I'm not sure what the process is. Do you I or edit them in and change the Edit Request to Done? -Ujwal.Xankill3r (talk) 04:50, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
- My apologies. Feel free to add them to the list yourself. I'll create redirects for Thorat and Teltumbde now, just in case.
- @Qriopal Apologies for false denying your request. Please remember to check your spelling next time. A diehard editor (talk | edits) 05:00, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
- No worries, I've added Sukhadeo Thorat. Anand Teltumbde was already listed under Activists so I've left him there. Deciding between Academics and Activists for him will be a separate decision that I'm not qualified to make. -Ujwal.Xankill3r (talk) 06:30, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

- My apologies for misspelling their names. I will be more careful next time. Thanks. Qriopal (talk) 18:02, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

- Already done by @Ujwal.Xankill3r. My original answer of "not done" was when I forgot to check your spelling for you. The original answer has been retained for archival purposes. You may disregard that one. A diehard editor (talk | edits) 06:36, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
