editThis list would be more useful if the botanical name is added just below the common name in the same box Paul venter 06:48, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I've done almost all of them. "Ironwood" and "Red cedar" are still unclear however... Also, some the common names correspond to more than one species, so I chose the most common reference. --Schzmo 12:08, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you - the table makes a lot more sense now! It's like running into old friends who've taken off their disguises. Are you thinking of doing articles on each of these timber species? Paul venter 14:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'd probably only be able to make stubs. Some of these tree species are pretty obscure and while I was searching up the scientific names, I didn't see much information on the species (i.e., the redlinked ones). --Schzmo 22:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Indian Elm
editI'm also confused about "Indian Elm"; I'm not sure which elm species it corresponds to. The Slippery Elm is also called Indian Elm, but this obviously can't be the right one since it's a New World species. --Schzmo 02:02, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Himalayan Elm perhaps ? What is the source of the list on the article ? Perhaps that will help in identification. Shyamal 04:20, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Copyvio?
editI'm not sure which was copied to where, but Basic Civil Engineering by Shibu Nalpat contains a lot of exact word to word sentences given in this article.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:35, 30 October 2006 (UTC) Answer'
Basic Civil Engineering book was wriiten in 2002 June. - Shibu Nalpat.
Sheesham
editI'm not sure how to edit a table like this but would Sheesham (Indian rosewood, Thakkat, Jali) be a suitable addition (used for furniture making)? 89.240.7.182 20:20, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- Added a row into the table. Feel free to add the details such as density, distribution and use. Shyamal 09:51, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you. On reading more about this timber I see it is already listed in the table as Sissoo so I have rv'ed the extra line. I notice that the article doesn't quote any sources. Here are a couple for Sissoo [1][2]. Sissoo probably warrants an article of its own. It would be nice to have a picture of the tree itself and an item of furniture. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.240.2.188 (talk) 10:58, 20 March 2007 (UTC).
Red cedar
editIt seems to be twice on the page. However the describtion is different.
