What a crying shame! Only one Native American has won an OSCAR?!?
editIs it no wonder Native American Indians are called the invisible people in America! Lets talk about WHY? What can be done to change that? And Who is working to change that with affirmative actions and organizations that can and will make a difference.
My humble part is writing a Transmedia Anti-war War Epic... Pilot Script, Treatment, Narrative & Business concept BOOK; R U ^_^" CXL 2603:8000:CC00:264F:2980:9D71:DF5E:A367 (talk) 03:43, 13 March 2023 (UTC)
- Well, the hope is that Lily Gladstone might just win this year. =) Emma Stone and several others are making this one of the strongest Best Actresses races ever to prepare for, can't wait. --Cinemaniac86TalkStalk 06:24, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
Should the article discuss the dispute/amendment to this list re: Buffy Sainte-Marie
editAt the time of her winning the Oscar, Buffy Sainte-Marie was recognized as the first ever Indigenous Academy Award winner. Given reporting by the CBC along with supplementary reporting arising from that reporting, it appears to be the consensus on the Buffy Sainte-Marie page that she is not Indigenous, a consensus currently reflected on this page. Should this page, however, still somehow reflect the reality for many years that Buffy Sainte-Marie was considered to be, and presumably continues to claim that she is the first ever Indigenous Academy Award winner? Personally I think Buffy needs to be removed from this list entirely, and perhaps moved to a list of Italians who have won Academy Awards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.56.201.151 (talk) 09:04, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Aren't Gaelic Irish people indigenous to Ireland?
editGaelic Irish fit the description of indigenous people, particularly in Ulster (native tongue, traditions, invaded, occupied, and settled by a larger force of Anglo-Norman and now British). Would Gaelic Irish people count here? 212.129.84.234 (talk) 23:26, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
What about US-American people with indigenous roots in Europe? Renée Zellweger's mother is a Sami from Norway
editWhy not add Renée Zellweger to the list? She's half Sámi. According to List of awards and nominations received by Renée Zellweger, she won leading roll and supporting actress. She is read white but she's still indigenous. Hightower8000 (talk) 17:27, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- "Several internet sources state that Renée has Sami ancestry. It is not clear if this ancestry has been verified/documented. None of Renée’s recent or relatively recent ancestors are listed as Sami on Norwegian census records. Sami are Indigenous people who inhabit Norway, Finland, and Sweden."[1].
