Getting Started on Alaska
editIpoellet, Nice job! doncram 05:10, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, but most of the credit needs to go to SEWilco, who drew the basic data from the NRIS and formatted it as a table here. All I've done is copy the Alaska table over, started reformatting it, verifying info against other authoritative sources, fixing links, that sort of copyediting stuff. Organization and Info in List
editThe "Year Listed" column, however, reports year in which NHL site first acquired NRHP designation apparently. What would be more natural to report is the Year Designated NHL. I take it this is based on a report from NRIS? doncram 05:15, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. SEWilco's data dump was from the NRIS, so everything needs to be verified against NHL sources. I'm going through the NHLs on
National Park Service (April 2007), National Historic Landmarks Survey: List of National Historic Landmarks by State (PDF)
in alphabetical order, and updating the information. Slow going so far, since I haven't had a chance to sit down and concentrate on it. Ipoellet 16:28, 28 September 2007 (UTC){{citation}}
: CS1 maint: date and year (link)
- I've verified all the nhl dates dm (talk) 20:28, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Photos for List
editThere are photos in the NRHP photo sets, in the new articles for Adak and for Alaska Brotherhood, which might be extracted to make thumbnails for the list page. doncram 05:10, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Quality rating as an ARTICLE not as a wiki-List
editDespite "list" being in article name, this is way more than a mere category list already, and is to be rated on scale Stub/Start/B class and then to go for Featured List status. I am rating this as Stub for now, consistent with proposed criteria for rating list-table-articles like this, under discussion in Talk page for WP:NRHP. To get to Start rating, it needs to have at least a stub article for each NHL listed, but there are currently many red-links. doncram 01:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- upgraded to C now, as all NHL articles "well-started" and passes the wp:NRHP special cleanup review drive, for 4 July 2008. Nice job, Dmadeo, in ur fixups! doncram (talk) 02:46, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Aleutians West Census Area, Alaska citation required?
editI'm not sure why someone tagged all the Aleutions West with citation required. Thoughts? dm (talk) 20:29, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- I once was closer to this. I think i interpreted the "citation required" as an indication of doubt, that it was put in as a guess for the borough/non-borough area that applied. The Aleutians West borough (or is it a non-borough area?) covers only part of the Aleutians chain. So i think i believed that all of those questioned in that way might or might not be in that part of the chain. Now, maybe with a Geobox map and coordinates, it may be easier to check on these locations. doncram (talk) 21:21, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey Dmadeo, i was feeling inspired to create the combo article Skagway Historic District and White Pass, but see you just did. Great. I have found in other situations that such combo articles to describe a NHL that links two or more areas is helpful, even if it basically just serves as a redirect to articles on each of the separate areas. Nice work on this, on the descriptions, and in sorting out other thorny issues for the Alaska NHLs! doncram (talk) 22:32, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Done with First Pass
editI've gone through and fixed as many of the articles as I could. There are not a lot of references available, even from the nps for these sites. Is this finally a C class list? dm (talk) 23:20, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
49 not 48 NHLs
editThe NPS lists 49 NHLs for Alaska including Old Sitka (06/13/62). -- Firefox13 (talk) 16:17, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
