Problem with this article going forward
editOne of the big problems we have on Wikipedia with Qld Govt Departments is the frequency with which they are reorganised. While the overall functions performed by the Qld Govt are relatively stable, the functional areas are regularly regrouped into different departments, usually following ministerial reshuffles. This creates two problems. Firstly the problem of keeping this article up-to-date with every re-shuffle. Secondly, it becomes very difficult to tell the story of an individual area over time. I encountered the latter problem when I worked on the article Department of Public Works (Queensland) (a topic that comes up whenever you write about any govt-built building). While the Dept of Public Works was often its own department, it has also over the years been combined into other departments, currently Housing and Public Works. A similar problem occurs with railways, sometimes its own department, currently part of Transport & Main Roads. With railways, we are finessing the problem on Wikipedia by having an article called Queensland Rail. I am wondering what we can do in general to sort out the problem of telling the story of a functional area in the face of changing department structures. Perhaps we should take the QR approach and rename Department of Public Works (Queensland) as Queensland Public Works (avoiding the Department word). Then this article could say something like ... The Department of Housing and Public Works under Minister So-And-So provides the services of [[Queensland Public Housing|public housing]] and [[Queensland Public Works|public works]].
